Magneto-inductive open-cell cellular carbon composites with activated carbon as guest phase: Guefoams for energy-efficient VOCs management

J. M. Molina-Jorda

Summary: Guefoams are a new type of open-cell cellular materials that extend the properties of conventional foams by incorporating guest phases. This study presents the development of pitch-derived composite guefoams that contain iron nanoparticles and activated carbon particles as inclusions. The combination of these particles significantly increases the specific surface area and gas adsorption capacity of the guefoams. The materials exhibit high magneto-inductive capacity when exposed to low-intensity magnetic fields, enabling ultrafast heating and rapid desorption. These guefoams demonstrate superior preconcentration capabilities for VOCs compared to current systems, while also being more energy efficient.

Ru/Ce/Ni Metal Foams as Structured Catalysts for the Methanation of CO2

Stefano Cimino et al.

Summary: The development of highly conductive structured catalysts with enhanced mass- and heat-transfer features is needed for the intensification of strongly exothermic catalytic hydrogenation of CO2. Thin porous CeO2 layers deposited on Ni foams produced active catalytic sites for the hydrogenation of CO2, and the dispersion of Ru within the pores of the CeO2 layer further boosted the methanation activity.

Investigation of chlorine-poisoning mechanism of MnOx/TiO2 and MnOx-CeO2/TiO2 catalysts during o-DCBz catalytic decomposition: Experiment and first-principles calculation

Feng Lin et al.

Summary: Experimental examination of MnOx/TiO2 and MnOx-CeO2/TiO2 catalysts for the oxidative degradation of 1,2-dichorobenzene (o-DCBz) revealed that Ce addition and high temperature effectively promoted the resistance of MnOx/TiO2 catalyst to Cl poisoning. Meanwhile, Density functional theory (DFT) calculations showed that Cl atom prefers to anchor on surface oxygen vacancy (OV) rather than on top site of Mn atom, which hinders the dissociated adsorption of O-2 on surface OV and interrupts the regeneration of the surface reactive oxygen species.

Highly active Ni/CeO2 catalyst for CO2 methanation: Preparation and characterization

Ning Rui et al.

Summary: The Ni/CeO2 catalyst prepared via gas discharge plasma and hydrogen reduction shows high activity in CO2 methanation at low temperatures, with excellent CH4 formation rate and redox property. The unique interfacial structure and metal-support interaction lead to the formation of rich interfacial Ni-CeO2 sites, improving the catalyst's performance significantly in H-2 splitting and CO2 activation.

What Are the Best Active Sites for CO2 Methanation over Ni/CeO2?

Shohei Tada et al.

Summary: This study found that oxygen defects in Ni-Ce mixed oxides play a key role in CO2 methanation, while high loading levels lead to the presence of metallic Ni nanoparticles supported on CeO2 and Ni-Ce mixed oxides. The presence of Ni-V-ox-Ce sites was found to be essential for CO2 methanation.

Thermal management of power electronics with liquid cooled metal foam heat sink

Yongtong Li et al.

Summary: This paper presents a study on the performance of liquid cooled aluminum foam heat sinks using experimental and numerical methods. It is found that the permeability decreases and inertial coefficient increases with increasing pore density. The AF heat sink demonstrates significantly better thermal performance compared to an empty channel, and the enhancement by 20 PPI foam is negligible. The LTNE model provides more accurate predictions of temperature distributions than the LTE model.
