Phase transitions of poly(oligo(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate)-water systems

Anna Czaderna-Lekka et al.

Summary: The phase diagrams for POEGMA hydrogels with different side chain lengths were shown for the first time, revealing a strict correlation between water crystallization and volume phase transition. The length of oligoether chains was found to influence the occurrence of polymer crystallization in the network and expand the range of polymer crystalline phase presence.

Stimuli-Responsive Hydrogels for Cancer Treatment: The Role of pH, Light, Ionic Strength and Magnetic Field

Fernanda Andrade et al.

Summary: Cancer remains the second leading cause of death globally, with the major obstacles in treatment being chemotherapy side effects and drug resistance. Research is ongoing to develop new formulations for localized drug delivery at tumor sites to improve treatment outcomes. Stimuli-responsive hydrogels, such as pH-, light-, ionic strength-, and magnetic-responsive hydrogels, show promising results in the localized control and treatment of cancer.

Stable and Highly Efficient Antibody-Nanoparticles Conjugation

Mahnaz Maddahfar et al.

Summary: The chain length of poly(oligo(ethylene glycol) methyl ether acrylate) (POEGMEA) affects the colloidal stability and antibody-conjugation efficiency of nanoparticles. Short POEGMEA chains cannot effectively stabilize the nanoparticles, while long chains hinder efficient conjugation to antibodies. Specifically, the polymer containing 13 OEGMEA units shows the highest binding efficiency for antibody molecules.

Nonbiofouling Coatings Using Bottlebrushes with Concentrated Polymer Brush Architecture

Chiaki Yoshikawa et al.

Summary: A simple and versatile method for fabricating nonbiofouling coatings using well-defined bottlebrushes instead of CPBs is reported in this study. The CPB-type bottlebrush films showed significantly better nonbiofouling characteristics than those of the SDPB-type bottlebrush films.

Hydration and Thermal Response Kinetics of a Cross-Linked Thermoresponsive Copolymer Film on a Hydrophobic PAN Substrate Coating Probed by In Situ Neutron Reflectivity

Neng Hu et al.

Summary: The hydration and thermal response kinetics of the cross-linked thermoresponsive copolymer P(MEO(2)MA-co-OEGMA(300)) on a PAN substrate coating were studied using in situ neutron reflectivity. The presence of internal cross-linking points in the film resulted in a slower hydration and thermal response compared to spin-coated films. The two-layer structure of the film, composed of a substrate-near layer and a main layer, influenced the hydration process and thermal transition behavior.

Silica Nanoparticle Reinforced Composites as Transparent Elastomeric Damping Materials

Fumio Asai et al.

Summary: Inspired by the structure of cornea, a transparent and tough silica composite elastomer was developed in this study with a simple composition. The addition of silica particles significantly improved the fracture energy of the composite elastomer. The interface layer formed near the silica particles played a crucial role in enhancing the performance of the composite elastomer, with the maximum fracture energy achieved at a particle surface distance of approximately 30 nm.

Maria Malvina Soledad Lencina et al.

Summary: The study investigates the effect of pH on the structure and dynamics of 3D networks formed by temperature-dependent hydrophobic association of triblock terpolymers. It reveals three pH regimes with distinct impacts on the network connectivity and properties, providing insights for tuning the injectability of pH-responsive hydrogels.
