Tailoring Ordered Wrinkle Arrays for Tunable Surface Performances by Template-Modulated Gradient Films

Senjiang Yu et al.

Summary: This study reports on the controllable heterogeneous wrinkles in template-modulated thickness-gradient metal films sputter-deposited on polydimethylsiloxane substrates. The surface performances are well controlled by the wrinkle arrays achieved by adjusting the deposition time, copper grid period, template shape, and lifting height.

Polymer chemistry underpinning materials for triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs): Recent trends

Gulzhian Dzhardimalieva et al.

Summary: Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) are devices that convert external mechanical energy into electricity by combining the triboelectric effect and electrostatic induction. Polymer materials, including polymer-containing electrodes and polymer triboelectric materials, are widely used in TENGs for energy harvesting. The use of biocompatible, biodegradable, humidity-resistant, pressure-resistant, self-healing, and shape memory polymers in TENGs has also been explored for their potential applications.

A low-cost, high-efficiency, new generation material for fog harvesting fumed silica-doped polypropylene

I. Afsin Kariper

Summary: The study found that Polypropylene doped with 1% fumed silica was the most effective at harvesting water, collecting almost 20 times more water than pure Polypropylene. This improvement is attributed to the decrease in surface tension when fumed silica is added. However, when fumed silica doping exceeds 1%, it increases the polymer's surface tension.

Pressure tunable adhesion of rough elastomers

Naomi Deneke et al.

Summary: The ability to control adhesion is crucial in various technologies, and this study investigates using polymer thin film dewetting as a surface modification tool. The research finds that by thermally annealing polystyrene thin films on a polydimethylsiloxane substrate, microscopic asperities can be formed, affecting adhesion properties. The study also reveals a pressure-dependent adhesive response on surfaces covered with the smallest asperities.
