Phase equilibria modelling and zircon U-Pb ages of the Paleoproterozoic high-pressure mafic granulites in the Jianping Complex and tectonic implications

Nanqing Xu et al.

Summary: The late Paleoproterozoic metamorphic evolution of the North China Craton has been a controversial issue, with the Jianping Complex serving as an ideal site for studying the tectonic evolution of the region. Petrographic studies and phase equilibrium modeling of mafic granulites in the area revealed a clockwise P-T path involving near isothermal decompression process, with peak metamorphic conditions identified as 13.0-13.5 kbar/850-900 degrees C. Metamorphic zircons from the samples provided ages indicating high-pressure metamorphism resulting from the collision of Eastern and Western Blocks around -1.85 Ga.

Summary: This article discusses the geological-tectonic environments, P-T paths, prograde processes and fluid behavior, pseudosection method, and phase equilibria modeling of granulites. Granulites can be formed in different tectonic environments, with varied prograde processes depending on fluid saturation. Pseudosection method is helpful in determining P-T conditions, while effective bulk-rock compositions are essential for accurate phase equilibria modeling.
