Isolation and characterization of KDML105 aromatic rice rhizobacteria producing indole-3-acetic acid: impact of organic and conventional paddy rice practices

K. Chinachanta et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the IAA-producing potential of rhizobacteria isolated during organic rice farming (ORF) and conventional rice farming (CRF) in Thailand, showing that ORF had a significantly higher percentage of IAA producers compared to CRF. Analysis of the isolates revealed that certain bacteria, such as Micrococcus sp. and Sinomonas sp., exhibited high IAA production ability even without the presence of L-tryptophan.

Fertilization and Soil Microbial Community: A Review

Lucian Constantin Dinca et al.

Summary: This paper reviews the effects of chemical and organic fertilizers on soil microbial communities. The results suggest that soil microbes have different responses to fertilization based on soil carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus contents, moisture, and plant species. Chemical fertilizers can change the abundance of microbial populations and stimulate their growth, but have no significant influence on the richness and diversity of bacteria and fungi. Instead, the abundance of individual bacterial or fungal species is sensitive to fertilization, mainly due to changes in soil chemical properties.

Accumulation, speciation and localization of silver nanoparticles in the earthworm Eisenia fetida

Pauline Courtois et al.

Summary: Research on earthworms exposed to silver-contaminated soil revealed that different forms of silver had varying effects on survival, but exhibited similar speciation and content in the earthworms at the end of exposure, indicating biotransformation. X-ray micro-computed tomography images showed silver preferentially accumulated in specific tissues, suggesting efficient bioaccumulation with a regulatory mechanism in E. fetida. The competition between silver and copper, along with the speciation of internal silver, indicates a link to thiol-rich proteins like metallothioneins involved in metal sequestration and detoxification.

Pseudomonas azotoformans FAP5, a novel biofilm-forming PGPR strain, alleviates drought stress in wheat plant

F. A. Ansari et al.

Summary: This study identified a novel strain, FAP5, with multifunctional traits that effectively alleviated drought stress in wheat plants through various biochemical mechanisms. The strain demonstrated tolerance to water stress, production of plant growth-promoting traits, and biofilm formation. Inoculation with FAP5 significantly improved growth attributes, photosynthetic pigment efficiency, and antioxidative enzymatic activities in wheat plants under drought conditions.

Hidden Engineers and Service Providers: Earthworms in Agricultural Land-Use Types of South Tyrol, Italy

Johannes Rudisser et al.

Summary: The study found that earthworms were more abundant in grasslands and apple orchards, while the distribution in vineyards was less clear. Overall, the estimated earthworm biomass in agricultural areas in South Tyrol was 34,900 tons, with a total value of EUR 872 million. This suggests that earthworms are suitable indicators for sustainable soil use at the landscape scale.

Plant Associated Rhizobacteria for Biocontrol and Plant Growth Enhancement

Xiurong Jiao et al.

Summary: The use of plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) is an environmentally friendly way to control plant disease and increase crop yield. PGPR can synthesize pathogen-antagonizing compounds and trigger plant immune responses to suppress diseases, as well as directly stimulate plant growth. Successful biocontrol agents (BCAs) provide strong support for the application of PGPR in greenhouse production, paving the way for their widespread use in agriculture to manage diseases and adapt to climate change conditions.

Taxonomic and functional characteristics of aerobic bacteria isolated from the chloragogenous tissue of the earthworm Aporrectodea molleri

Sofia Houida et al.

Summary: This study isolated aerobic bacteria from earthworms for the first time, which showed various plant growth promoting traits and resistance to heavy metals. Bacillus strains, especially B. subtilis strain TC34, B. circulans strain TC7, and Bacillus sp. strain TC10, exhibited the most effective PGP traits and resistance to heavy metals.

Shifts in the rhizobiome during consecutive in planta enrichment for phosphate-solubilizing bacteria differentially affect maize P status

Noemie De Zutter et al.

Summary: A new in planta enrichment concept was developed to simultaneously select for phosphate solubilization and rhizosphere competence. Inoculating maize roots with phosphate-solubilizing bacteria led to plants showing a similar phosphorus status to those supplied with soluble phosphate. Non-destructive multispectral imaging and metabarcoding revealed the effectiveness of this method, as well as shifts in the rhizobiome towards bacteria with plant growth-promoting and P-solubilizing capacities.

Emerging strategies for precision microbiome management in diverse agroecosystems

Elizabeth French et al.

Summary: Efforts to characterize soil, plant, and insect-associated microbial communities have revealed the complexity of crop-associated microbiomes. Plant-associated microorganisms have potential in improving agricultural sustainability, but research faces challenges in harnessing the beneficial properties of agricultural microbiomes for crop performance. Enhancing microbiome manipulation is a key strategy in achieving precision microbiome management for diverse agricultural systems.
