Spin Hall Effect of Light with Near-Unity Efficiency in the Microwave

Minkyung Kim et al.

Summary: This study proposes a method to achieve a large SHEL and near-unity efficiency in the microwave spectrum using anisotropic impedance mismatching, and experimentally confirms spin-dependent splitting by measuring transmission coefficients and the spatial profile of Stokes parameters.

Limitations of the transmitted photonic spin Hall effect through layered structure

Chong Miao et al.

Summary: This paper theoretically proves that the spin-dependent transverse shift through layered structure has a maximum limit of half of the incident beam waist. The study clarifies the exact conditions for achieving this upper limit. Contrary to popular belief, there is no positive correlation between the spin-dependent transverse displacement and the ratio between the Fresnel transmission coefficients, with the optimal transmission ratio determined by the incident angle and the beam waist.

Spin Hall Effect under Arbitrarily Polarized or Unpolarized Light

Minkyung Kim et al.

Summary: This study proves that the spin Hall effect of light is independent of incident polarization and symmetrical in shift when the two linear polarization states have the same Fresnel coefficients. Under unpolarized incidence, the reflected beam is split into two circularly polarized components that undergo the same amount of splitting in opposite directions.

Total Reflection-Induced Efficiency Enhancement of the Spin Hall Effect of Light

Minkyung Kim et al.

Summary: A new approach is proposed in this paper to achieve a large SHEL and high efficiency simultaneously for arbitrarily polarized incidence. By exploiting total reflection at the interface of a dense-to-sparse medium and increasing the refractive index contrast, the SHEL can be further enhanced. It is suggested to design a three-dimensional isotropic metamaterial with a refractive index below unity to experimentally demonstrate the SHEL with high efficiency.
