A Model for the Structure of Adsorbed Layers at Solid/Liquid Interfaces

Ying Li et al.

Summary: A thermodynamic model called the dynamic bonding equilibrium (DBE) model was developed to describe the structure of adsorbed layers, and its rationality was confirmed by experimental data. The model provides a feasible approach for obtaining information about the structure of adsorbed layers at solid/liquid interfaces.

Monoclonal Antibody Aggregation near Silicone Oil-Water Interfaces

Rajat Dandekar et al.

Summary: In this study, numerical simulations were used to investigate the hydrodynamic behavior of monoclonal antibodies in the presence of silicone oil-water interfaces. The simulations revealed protein loss from the bulk solution as molecules adsorb at the interface, as well as dynamic cluster formation in the solution bulk and at the interface.

Enzymatic Hydrolysis of Triglycerides at the Water-Oil Interface Studied via Interfacial Rheology Analysis of Lipase Adsorption Layers

Aliyar Javadi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the dilational viscoelasticity of lipase adsorbed layer at the water-oil interface using profile analysis tensiometry. The behavior of lipase is found to be dependent on the concentration and age of the adsorbed layer. Enzymatic hydrolysis products can facilitate desorption during compression and inhibit adsorption during expansion. Lissajous plots show how hysteresis effect affects the interfacial tensions along different routes.

Simulation Insight into the Synergic Role of Citrate and Polyaspartic Peptide in Biomineralization

Jinxiang Zeng et al.

Summary: Hydroxyapatite (HAP) is a vital inorganic component in biological minerals, with more than 90% of total citrate accumulating in human bones and biomineralized tissues. Molecular dynamics simulations show that citrate can aid polyaspartic acid in stable adsorption on the HAP surface, acting as a template for mineralization and contributing to a narrower orientation distribution for PASP with the help of CIT.

Sunflower Proteins at Air-Water and Oil-Water Interfaces

Alexandre Poirier et al.

Summary: The study investigated the adsorption process of sunflower protein extract at two air-water and oil-water interfaces, revealing a three-step mechanism. Initially, a diffusion-limited adsorption of proteins at interfaces occurs, followed by the formation of a three-dimensional saturated monolayer of proteins, and finally a thick layer expanding in the aqueous phase. The study also found that the adsorption mechanisms of proteins exhibit significant divergences at longer adsorption times.

Lysozyme Adsorption on Different Functionalized MXenes: A Multiscale Simulation Study

Daohui Zhao et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that lysozyme can effectively adsorb on Ti3C2Tx surfaces, controlled by electrostatics and van der Waals interactions. The orientation distribution of lysozyme on Ti3C2O2 and Ti3C2F2 surfaces is more concentrated, with stable conformation during adsorption. The distribution of interfacial water layer on Ti3C2Tx surface also impacts protein adsorption.

Molecular Dynamics Simulations of Nanostructures Formed by Hydrophobins and Oil in Seawater

Andres A. Vodopivec et al.

Summary: Classical molecular dynamics simulations were used to study oil nanodroplets surrounded by fungal hydrophobin (HP) proteins in seawater. The simulations revealed that both HPs exhibit free energy minima at the oil-seawater interface, with the affinity of HFBII to benzene being stronger compared to EAS. Additionally, smaller surface tensions were observed at benzene-seawater interfaces coated with HPs compared to their n-decane counterparts, and the HP-oil nanostructures in seawater were found to have varying sizes and shapes depending on the type of oil used.
