Photocatalytic degradation of cyanide using polyurethane foam immobilized Fe-TCPP-S-TiO2-rGO nano-composite

Dhruti Sundar Pattanayak et al.

Summary: The study explored the use of a heterogeneous photocatalyst system comprised of S-TiO2@rGO immobilized on polyurethane foam for treating cyanide contaminated wastewater. By synthesizing a Fe-TCPP sensitizer, the photocatalytic system showed significant degradation of cyanide, with over 91% removal achieved in a solid-state system. The study demonstrated that the solid-state photocatalytic system was significantly more efficient in degrading cyanide compared to suspended systems, with an activity nearly 10.8 times higher than pure TiO2 photocatalysts.

Control over Electrochemical CO2 Reduction Selectivity by Coordination Engineering of Tin Single-Atom Catalysts

Jiangyi Guo et al.

Summary: The authors prepared Sn SACs with atomically dispersed SnN3O1 active sites supported on N-rich carbon matrix for efficient electrochemical CO2 reduction, achieving exclusive production of CO. The atomic arrangement of SnN3O1 reduces activation energy for *COO and *COOH formation, while increasing energy barrier for HCOO* formation, thereby enhancing CO2-to-CO conversion and suppressing HCOOH production, providing a new way for controlling binding strength of reactive intermediates on catalyst surface to enhance selectivity to a specific product.

Mitophagy and Oxidative Stress: The Role of Aging

Anna De Gaetano et al.

Summary: Mitochondrial dysfunction is a key characteristic of aging, with mitophagy playing a crucial role in eliminating damaged mitochondria. Oxidative stress is a major factor in aging, triggering mitophagy to remove dysfunctional mitochondria. However, chronic oxidative stress can lead to mitochondrial damage that overwhelms the autophagic pathways, disrupting the delicate balance between mitophagy, ROS production, and mitochondrial damage, which can accelerate the aging process.

Linking Oxidative Stress and Proteinopathy in Alzheimer's Disease

Chanchal Sharma et al.

Summary: Proteinopathy and excessive production of reactive oxygen species are key factors contributing to neuronal toxicity in Alzheimer's disease. Beta-amyloid and tau proteins play a significant role in proteinopathy in AD, which is closely related to ROS production. The mechanisms of proteinopathy and ROS production work together to drive the pathology observed in aging brains, ultimately leading to oxidative stress and neurodegeneration.
