Activation Strategy of MoS2 as HER Electrocatalyst through Doping-Induced Lattice Strain, Band Gap Engineering, and Active Crystal Plane Design

Saikat Bolar et al.

Summary: Doping engineering is a modern technique for investigating the catalytic performance of MoS2, with V and N as dopants improving electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution reactions. The introduction of strain and reduction in optical band gaps lead to enhanced catalytic performance, while decreasing agglomeration and particle size during crystal growth. The improved donor density, electrical conductivity, and optimized electronic structures in cation and anion co-doped MoS2 facilitate H* adsorption/desorption in the catalytically active (001) plane.

Defect Engineering of Graphene to Modulate pH Response of Graphene Devices

Shayan Angizi et al.

Summary: Graphene-based pH sensors offer robust, durable, sensitive, and scalable detection of pH in various environments, with the sensing response dependent on the defect density level of graphene. This study reveals that different mechanisms, such as surface functional group-induced charge induction and electric double layer formation, control the sensing response at different ratios, ultimately determining the overall pH-sensing characteristics of graphene.

Impact of the Surface and Microstructure on the Lubricative Properties of MoS2 Aging under Different Environments

Xing'an Cao et al.

Summary: Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) is widely used as a lubricant due to its excellent lubricative property, but aging shortens its service life. Under different environments, such as UV/Ozone and high-temperature, MoS2 exhibits varying degrees of degradation in lubrication performance, with surface hydrophilicity and structural damage contributing to the deterioration. The atomic-scale mechanism underlying the lubrication failure of MoS2 involves factors such as out-of-plane deformation, reduced stiffness, and increased energy barriers of defects.

Facile fabrication of conductive MoS2 thin films by sonication in hot water and evaluation of their electrocatalytic performance in the hydrogen evolution reaction

Dipankar Saha et al.

Summary: This study presents a new environmentally friendly method for exfoliating doped conductive MoS2 in pure water using sonication, demonstrating the generation of sub-stoichiometric MoO3-y by controlling sonication time and temperature to increase film conductivity. Additionally, the performance of these doped MoS2 films as electrocatalysts in the hydrogen evolution reaction is evaluated. The mechanistic origin of the catalytic properties of these materials is elucidated, suggesting potential use in developing a family of electrocatalysts based on doped MoS2.

Impact of Surface Adsorption on Metal-Ligand Binding of Phenanthrolines

Johnson Dalmieda et al.

Summary: Phenanthrolines are ligands known to bind with various metal cations to form complexes. This study investigated the effects of adsorption on the binding ability of different phenanthroline derivatives and found that only Cu2+ and Ag+ showed evidence of binding on FLG surfaces. The substituents on the ligands affected the response magnitude, with Raman and XPS data further revealing complexation of copper by surface-bound ligands.
