Drastic promotion of the photoreactivity of MOF ultrathin nanosheets towards hydrogen production by deposition with CdS nanorods

Heng Yang et al.

Summary: In this research, inorganic semiconductor CdS nanorods were successfully used to enhance the hydrogen evolution reaction of hierarchically structured Ni-based MOF under simulated sunlight irradiation. The CdS-NRs/NMOF-Ni hybridized photocatalyst exhibited excellent photo-stability in hydrogen production and a direct Z-scheme electron transfer mechanism was proposed for the enhanced photoreactivity.

Ti-based MOFs: New insights on the impact of ligand composition and hole scavengers on stability, charge separation and photocatalytic hydrogen evolution

Jia Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that the combination of MIL-125-Ti with methanol exhibited higher activity in photocatalysis due to the effective scavenging of holes in the metal-oxo cluster by methanol and prevention of charge recombination, while holes in NH2 groups were detrimental to photocatalytic performance. Mixed-ligand MOFs follow a dual-excitation pathway, introducing new states and transitions.

Constructing 1D/2D Schottky-Based Heterojunctions between Mn0.2Cd0.8S Nanorods and Ti3C2 Nanosheets for Boosted Photocatalytic H2 Evolution

Zhimin Jiang et al.

Summary: Sustainable photocatalytic H-2 generation has been widely studied using metal sulfide solid-solution photocatalysts, which have excellent light absorption properties and suitable band gaps. However, challenges remain in developing low-cost and efficient photocatalysts due to issues like rapid recombination of charge carriers and low quantum efficiency. Additional measures, such as constructing Schottky-based heterojunctions, have shown promise in improving the overall efficiency of photocatalytic H-2 evolution.

Cobalt nanoclusters coated with N-doped carbon for chemoselective nitroarene hydrogenation and tandem reactions in water

Silvia Gutierrez-Tarrino et al.

Summary: The synthesis of subnanometric and stable cobalt nanoclusters covered by N-doped carbon layers (Co@NC-800) for the chemoselective reduction of nitroarenes is reported in this study. The Co@NC-800 catalyst showed high activity, chemoselectivity, and stability towards the reduction of nitro compounds under mild reaction conditions, using water as a green solvent. Additionally, the catalyst was also effective for the synthesis of secondary aryl amines and isoindolinones through reductive amination of nitroarenes.

Amorphous Co3S4 nanoparticle-modified tubular g-C3N4 forms step-scheme heterojunctions for photocatalytic hydrogen production

Yuanpeng Wang et al.

Summary: This study successfully reduced the recombination rate of photogenerated electron-hole pairs by constructing heterojunctions with a matched band structure, leading to improved photocatalytic H-2 evolution. The creation of a step-scheme heterojunction between g-C3N4 hexagonal tubes and Co3S4 ultra-fine nanoparticles enhanced spatial charge separation, resulting in more effective electrons for the photocatalytic reaction.

Theoretically guiding the construction of a novel Cu2O@Cu97P3@Cu3P heterojunction with a 3D hierarchical structure for efficient photocatalytic hydrogen evolution

Lijun Zhang et al.

Summary: Using density functional theory (DFT) calculations, this study determined an experimental scheme for surface modification of Cu2O with Cu3P to produce a 3D hierarchical core-shell structure (Cu2O@Cu97P3@Cu3P) that significantly increased photocatalytic H-2 production under visible light. The introduction of Cu3P onto Cu2O surface improved adsorption free energy of H atoms, reduced overpotential of hydrogen evolution, and increased active sites for hydrogen production. The presence of Cu97P3 bridged substances between Cu2O and Cu3P accelerated electron transfer and improved photocatalytic hydrogen evolution efficiency.
