Effect of Anticoagulant Therapy for 6 Weeks vs 3 Months on Recurrence and Bleeding Events in Patients Younger Than 21 Years of Age With Provoked Venous Thromboembolism The Kids-DOTT Randomized Clinical Trial

Neil A. Goldenberg et al.

Summary: Among patients younger than 21 years of age with provoked venous thromboembolism, 6-week anticoagulant therapy was noninferior to 3-month therapy in terms of recurrent venous thromboembolism risk and bleeding risk.

A systematic review of adherence to anticoagulation regimens in pediatric patients

Kevin E. Todd et al.

Summary: Thromboembolic disease rates are increasing in pediatric patients, and adherence to anticoagulation regimens is important for treatment and prevention. However, studies on anticoagulation nonadherence in pediatric patients are limited. Rates of nonadherence vary and are influenced by factors such as patient age and concurrent medication use. More research is needed to understand the relationship between nonadherence and health outcomes.

Efficacy and Safety of Non-Vitamin K Antagonist Oral Anticoagulants in Pediatric Venous Thromboembolism Treatment and Thromboprophylaxis: A Systematic Review of the Literature

Joshua W. Branstetter et al.

Summary: Venous thromboembolism in children can result in significant morbidity and mortality. Traditional treatments like unfractionated heparin and vitamin K antagonists have been used, but recent studies on pediatric use of non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants have shown promising results in terms of efficacy and safety. Ongoing trials will provide further insights into thromboembolism prophylaxis in special pediatric populations.
