Thermodynamic analysis of hydrogen production via supercritical water gasification of coal, sewage sludge, microalga, and sawdust

Chuang Yang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the thermodynamic equilibrium analysis of supercritical water gasification involving different feedstocks like coal, sewage sludge, microalgae, and sawdust. The results show that temperature and feed concentration play a crucial role in determining hydrogen yield, while pressure has minimal effects. An optimal feed concentration of 15-20 wt% is found for hydrogen production.

Gas products generation mechanism during co-pyrolysis of styrene-butadiene rubber and natural rubber

Qirong Yang et al.

Summary: The study combined reaction molecular dynamics and experiments to investigate the pyrolysis products generation mechanism and optimal paths for effective recovery of waste rubber. Results showed that adding SBR increased the pyrolysis temperature of NR and the main gas products of SBR pyrolysis were 1,3-butadiene and styrene. During co-pyrolysis of NR-SBR, increasing SBR content led to higher H2 yield and lower CH4 yield.

Summary: The study evaluated genetic variability of natural rubber latex traits among 44 elite genotypes of rubber tree, using multivariate analysis and machine learning techniques. Traits like PRI, Ash, and P-O contributed most to genetic diversity. Genotypes like IAC 418 and PB 326 were identified as the most divergent and could be used to improve rubber latex quality.

Reactivity and mechanism between •OH and phenolic pollutants: Efficiency and DFT calculation

Ting-ting Cao et al.

Summary: In this study, a vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) lamp was utilized to effectively decay phenolic pollutants (PPs) with different functional groups, showing excellent removal efficiency. Density functional theory (DFT) was applied to reveal the reactivity and mechanism between center dot OH and PPs with different functional groups. The oxidation mechanism between PPs and center dot OH in the VUV system was also deeply investigated, providing insights into the ring-opening process and the formation of micro-fatty acids as the primary rate-controlling step.

Beneficial migration of sulfur element during scrap tire depolymerization with supercritical water: A molecular dynamics and DFT study

Shuo Yan et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the complete depolymerization of scrap tires to valuable oil products and fuel gas using supercritical water technology and identified the migration mechanism of sulfur element to reduce pollution. The process involves the release of center dot OH radicals to enhance cleavage of C-S bonds, resulting in sulfur-containing intermediates that can be further oxidized into inorganic sulfur molecules. Through a combined ReaxFF-MD and DFT method, a strategy to fix low-valent sulfur in aqueous solution for separation from oil & gas products was provided, aiming to make the ST-SCW technology cleaner and cheaper.
