Effect of two constant light regimens on antibody profiles and immune gene expression in Atlantic salmon following vaccination and experimental challenge with salmonid alphavirus

Anne Flore Bakke et al.

Summary: The effects of light manipulation on antibody production and gene expression in farmed Atlantic salmon were examined in this study. Differences were observed in gene expression and antibody levels between fish exposed to constant light two weeks prior to vaccination and those exposed at the time of vaccination. However, these differences were eliminated by vaccination when the fish were challenged with salmonid alphavirus.

More than one way to smoltify a salmon? Effects of dietary and light treatment on smolt development and seawater growth performance in Atlantic salmon

Anja Striberny et al.

Summary: This study compared the effects of different light and dietary treatments on the development and post-smolt performance of Atlantic salmon. The results showed that fish in the continuous light groups had the highest mass gain during the freshwater phase, while dietary treatment seemed to compensate for the lack of light treatment, resulting in comparable growth and feed intake in fish subjected to both treatments.

Development of Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar L.) Under Hypoxic Conditions Induced Sustained Changes in Expression of Immune Genes and Reduced Resistance to Moritella viscosa

Summary: Atlantic salmon is highly sensitive to low dissolved oxygen levels, which can impact immune response and resistance to bacterial pathogens. Chronic hypoxia may stimulate immune genes but does not improve protection against bacterial pathogens.
