Silica-silicon composites for near-infrared reflection: A comprehensive computational and experimental study

Kevin Conley et al.

Summary: Compact layers containing embedded semiconductor particles consolidated using pulsed electric current sintering exhibit intense, broadband near-infrared reflectance with up to 72% reflectance in the visible region. The composites have different microstructures and can scatter light at the air-matrix interface, achieving high reflectance with minimal dissipative losses.

Formation of Near-IR Excitons in Low-Dimensional CuSbS2

Kevin M. Conley et al.

Summary: The study explains the optical properties of two-dimensional copper antimony disulfide through density functional theory and many-body perturbation theory, showing that the thin layers induce strongly bound optical transitions in the near-infrared region. This makes copper antimony disulfide platelets potential candidates for novel photovoltaic devices and near-infrared sensors.

Resonant reflection by microsphere arrays with AR-quenched Mie scattering

Nasrin Razmjooei et al.

Summary: This study investigates the differentiation between Mie resonance and guided-mode resonance in mediating resonant reflection in periodic particle assemblies, revealing high-efficiency resonance reflection in Mie-resonance-quenched arrays. By applying an optimal antireflection coating to silicon spheres in a 2D periodic array, the study demonstrates persistent perfect reflection and greatly diminished Mie scattering efficiency. The results provide insights into the operational physics and dispel misconceptions in the literature.

Electromagnetic Response and Optical Properties of Spherical CuSbS2 Nanoparticles

F. Seyedheydari et al.

Summary: The study shows that CuSbS2 nanoparticles exhibit excellent electromagnetic response properties for solar applications and NIR sensors, with absorption and scattering efficiencies varying with particle size. Furthermore, with an increase in particle size in a layer with multiple embedded nanoparticles, NIR transmittance decreases, while absorption and reflectance are enhanced.

Summary: By studying the interaction between localized surface plasmon resonances from metallic cores and electromagnetic resonances from semiconducting shells in core@shell nanoparticles, we can achieve tunability of their optical properties, which can be further generalized to other core@shell systems.
