Structured light in the spatially partially coherent regime

Benjamin Perez-Garcia et al.

Summary: This work provides an introduction to the field of spatially partial coherent beams, with a focus on the transverse structure of an optical field. The concept of spatial coherence is closely examined, and strategies to address it are presented. A partially coherent vortex beam is constructed as an example, with step-by-step guidance for the reader. Numerical simulations reveal the richness in structure of a partially coherent field through its cross-correlation function.

von Karman Correlation Similarity of the Turbulent Interplanetary Magnetic Field

Sohom Roy et al.

Summary: Research shows that there exists a similarity decay phenomenon similar to fluid turbulence in the magnetic field fluctuations of the solar wind, which is significant for theoretical studies of the magnetic field. By analyzing magnetic correlation functions obtained from different data sources, it can be concluded that the second-order magnetic correlation functions largely conform to the similarity form anticipated by von Karman's hypothesis.

Oceanic non-Kolmogorov optical turbulence and spherical wave propagation

Jin-Ren Yao et al.

Summary: This paper extends the oceanic spatial power spectrum to non-Kolmogorov turbulent regimes, introducing the concept of two advected scalars and spectral correlation to handle anisotropic turbulence. The new spectrum is expected to be significant for theoretical analysis and experimental measurements of non-classic natural water double-diffusion turbulent regimes.

Phase correlation arc and universal decay of entangled orbital angular momentum qubit states in atmospheric turbulence

Donghui Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, the evolution of OAM entanglement in atmospheric turbulence is investigated using phase correlation arc. It is found that the entanglement decay of all OAM states of Laguerre-Gaussian modes follows a universal law, which is also theoretically confirmed to exist in Bessel-Gaussian modes. The precise formula of decay distance dependence on the OAM number derived using the phase correlation arc shows excellent agreement with previous experimental conclusions.

Capacity analysis of oceanic channels with localized Lommel-Gaussian vortex beams

Shuai Ling Wang et al.

Summary: The correlation function of localized Lommel-Gaussian vortex beams in oceanic turbulence and its impact on the channel capacity of underwater wireless optical communication systems (UWOCS) are studied. It is found that choosing appropriate light parameters and considering the effects of oceanic turbulence are crucial for achieving high channel capacity in UWOCS. Scaling analysis suggests that the inner scale has a more significant effect on channel capacity compared to the outer scale.

Eulerian spatiotemporal correlations in passive scalar turbulence

Anastasiia Gorbunova et al.

Summary: We conducted numerical simulations to study the spatiotemporal two-point correlation function of passively advected scalar fields in three-dimensional homogeneous isotropic turbulence. Our aim was to test analytical results obtained using functional renormalization group (FRG). The simulations showed decay of Eulerian correlations of the scalar as a Gaussian at small time delays and a predicted crossover to exponential decay at large time delays, which could not be observed due to numerical noise. We accurately confirmed FRG results by introducing finite time correlations in the synthetic velocity field and studying the crossover between two regimes.

Propagation properties of Laguerre-Gaussian Schell-model beams with a twist phase

Yonglei Liu et al.

Summary: By analyzing and discussing the twisted Laguerre-Gaussian Schell-model beams, it is shown that adjusting both the mode order and twist factor can enhance the total OAM of the beams and improve their resistance to turbulence. TLGSM beams have multiple degrees of freedom that can be optimized to adapt the beams to different turbulence conditions, making them an ideal choice for optical applications in challenging media.

Spatio-temporal correlations in three-dimensional homogeneous and isotropic turbulence

A. Gorbunova et al.

Summary: The study uses direct numerical simulations to test recent theoretical predictions in a three-dimensional incompressible fluid. Results show agreement with predictions from the Functional Renormalization Group (FRG) and can be explained as a consequence of sweeping. Additionally, there is a crossover in the two-point spatiotemporal correlations of the velocity modulus from Gaussian to exponential decay.

Spatio-temporal correlation functions in scalar turbulence from functional renormalization group

Carlo Pagani et al.

Summary: In this study, the behavior of the two-point correlation function of a scalar field passively advected by a turbulent flow at large wavenumbers is investigated. Through analysis of the Kraichnan model and the Navier-Stokes equation model, it is found that the two-point correlation function of the scalar decays exponentially with time delay at high wavenumbers, and the prefactor is proportional to k(2). The assumption of delta-correlation in time of the stochastic velocity field in the Kraichnan model significantly alters the statistical temporal behavior of the scalar at small times.
