Comparative Performance of 99mTc-TRODAT-1 SPECT/CT and 18F-FDOPA PET/CT Imaging in Patients With Parkinson's Disease, Parkinson-Plus Syndrome, and Essential Tremor

Apurva Sood et al.

Summary: The study found that in ET cases, the striatum showed symmetrical comma-shaped uptake with significantly higher SUR compared to early PD cases; Tc-99m-TRODAT-1 and F-18-FDOPA showed consistency in predicting dopaminergic dysfunction; there was a significant correlation of SUR between the striatum on SPECT and PET scans.

A diagnostic strategy for Parkinsonian syndromes using quantitative indices of DAT SPECT and MIBG scintigraphy: an investigation using the classification and regression tree analysis

Yu Iwabuchi et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the diagnostic performances of quantitative indices obtained from DAT SPECT and MIBG scintigraphy for Parkinsonian syndromes using CART analysis. The PCR, WR, H/M (Delay), and SBR indices played important roles in the optimal decision tree model, providing useful guidance for clinical practice in differentiating NPS, PD, DLB, and PSP.

FDG-PET Patterns Predict Amyloid Deposition and Clinical Profile in Corticobasal Syndrome

Jacy Bezerra Parmera et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate if different brain metabolism patterns could distinguish CBS due to Alzheimer's disease and other pathologies. The results showed that FDG-PET was useful in predicting CBS variants and depicting their specific degeneration patterns, different clinical features, and brain amyloid deposition.

Neuropathological and Biomarker Findings in Parkinson's Disease and Alzheimer's Disease: From Protein Aggregates to Synaptic Dysfunction

Yaroslau Compta et al.

Summary: There are similarities and differences between Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease at the neuropathology and biomarker levels, with shared protein aggregates and synapse dysfunction, but differences in specific lesions. Further research is needed to explore the implications of modern neuropathological techniques on these neurodegenerative diseases.

Using Artificial Neural Network to Discriminate Parkinson's Disease from Other Parkinsonisms by Focusing on Putamen of Dopamine Transporter SPECT Images

Chung-Yao Chien et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that using an artificial neural network to process dopamine transporter single-photon emission computed tomography images shows higher predictive accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity in differentiating Parkinson's disease from parkinsonism caused by other disorders compared to using a support vector machine.

A new quantitative index in the diagnosis of Parkinson syndrome by dopamine transporter single-photon emission computed tomography

Ryota Bando et al.

Summary: This study proposes a new quantitative index, f-DTV, for evaluating the three-dimensional volume of functional dopamine transporters using DAT SPECT, and demonstrates that f-DTV has almost the same diagnostic ability to differentiate dNDD from non-dNDD as compared to SBR_Bolt.

Alpha-Synuclein: Mechanisms of Release and Pathology Progression in Synucleinopathies

Ines C. Bras et al.

Summary: Accumulation of misfolded alpha-synuclein (aSyn) in the brain is central to Parkinson's disease (PD) pathogenesis, with cell-to-cell transmission leading to the stereotypical distribution and evolution of pathology forming synucleinopathies. While progress has been made, mechanisms involved in the transfer of aSyn assemblies and their role in driving PD progression remain unclear.

SARS-CoV-2-related encephalitis with prominent parkinsonism: clinical and FDG-PET correlates in two patients

Mauro Morassi et al.

Summary: This study presents the clinical and neuroimaging findings of two patients with COVID-19-related encephalopathy and prominent parkinsonism, suggesting a possible immune-mediated etiology in one case. Despite the lack of response to immunotherapy, FDG-PET/CT results displayed distinctive brain metabolic changes reminiscent of post-encephalitic parkinsonism, highlighting the neurological complications possibly triggered by SARS-CoV-2 infection.

FDG-PET patterns associated with ideomotor apraxia and imitation apraxia in patients with corticobasal syndrome

Sungyang Jo et al.

Summary: This study used FDG-PET to reveal distinct glucose hypometabolism patterns in ideomotor and imitation apraxia subtypes in CBS patients. Patients with both ideomotor and imitation apraxia were more likely to exhibit the typical features of CBS and progressive supranuclear palsy compared to those with only one type of apraxia. These findings contribute to our understanding of the brain networks underlying apraxia in relation to the clinical features of CBS.

Metabolic and Structural Signatures of Speech and Language Impairment in Corticobasal Syndrome: A Multimodal PET/MRI Study

Jacy Bezerra Parmera et al.

Summary: In investigating CBS speech and language impairment patterns with a multimodal imaging approach, a wide linguistic profile was identified, with aphasia being a prominent cognitive impairment. Dysarthria may help distinguish CBS patients not related to AD, with distinct metabolic and structural signatures providing further insights into the motor speech production network and aiding the differentiation of CBS variants.
