Self-diffusion in high-purity alpha-Al2O3: Comparison of Ti-doped, Mg-doped and undoped single crystals

Peter Fielitz et al.

Summary: This study is based on high-purity single crystal α-alumina to control key material parameters. The impact of Mg or Ti doping on oxygen diffusion is unclear, possibly due to similar calculated energies. Al self-diffusion is faster than oxygen diffusion, and Mg doping significantly reduces Al diffusivity in α-alumina.
