This study investigates the effect of a novel lubricant, WS2-oil mixture, on the surface defect of electric hot incremental forming. It finds that the graininess of WS2 has a more significant impact on lubrication compared to its concentration. Additionally, it discovers the importance of high-temperature adhesive wear and abrasive flow polishing in improving the surface smoothness of forming parts.
The surface defect caused by rigid wear, high-temperature adhesive wear and current-carrying wear is a key problem to limit the development of electric hot incremental forming. In this paper, a novel lubricant, namely the mixture of WS2 and oil, was proposed to eliminate machining traces on the surface of parts based on the friction characteristic of electric hot incremental forming. On this basis, the effect of WS2 graininess is more significant than that of WS2 concentration in the novel lubrication. Meanwhile, an interaction wear, such as high-temperature adhesive wear and abrasive flow polishing, was discovered through the analysis of the wear mass of parts. The high-temperature adhesive wear is a major factor in electric hot incremental forming and the abrasive flow polishing, which is not ignored, is helping to improve the surface smoothness of forming parts.
