Patient Perception of Pain Control (Not Opiate Amount) Affects Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems and Press Ganey Satisfaction Scores After Orthopaedic Trauma

Adil S. Ahmed et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the relationship between opiate amounts and patient perception of pain control in orthopaedic trauma patients, as well as their overall hospital rating. Results showed that patients' perception of pain control was strongly associated with overall HCAHPS and Press Ganey ratings, indicating that counseling and multimodal pain control may lead to better satisfaction scores without high opiate use after orthopaedic trauma.
