C-HMIDLINE HORIZONTAL ELLIPSISS hydrogen bonding interactions

Hazel A. Fargher et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that C-H midline bonds are often overlooked but important stabilizing interactions, meeting the definition of hydrogen bonding. By comparing with traditional hydrogen bond donors and acceptors, as well as investigating the effect of metal bonding, the generality of C-H midline hydrogen bonding can be established and used for identification in diverse systems.

The More the Slower: Self-Inhibition in Supramolecular Chirality Induction, Memory, Erasure, and Reversion

Jiecheng Ji et al.

Summary: This study reports a self-inhibition phenomenon during the supramolecular chirality induction, memory, erasure, and inversion processes of pillar[5]arene (P[5]) derivatives. The addition of chiral alanine ethyl ester led to time-dependent chirality induction, and more chiral inducers resulted in more intensive final chiroptical properties but lower chiral induction rates.

Absolute Stereochemical Determination of Organic Molecules through Induction of Helicity in Host-Guest Complexes

Hadi Gholami et al.

Summary: Stereochemistry is a fundamental molecular property that significantly influences the structure, function, and activity of organic molecules, particularly in biological systems. Molecular stereochemistry plays a crucial role in various disciplines of chemistry and related fields, especially in achieving stereoselective syntheses. Developing molecular receptors for sensing molecular asymmetry is an effective method for assigning the absolute configuration of chiral molecules.

Coal-Tar Dye-based Coordination Cages and Helicates

Irene Regeni et al.

Summary: This study introduces a strategy to incorporate four members of the classic coal-tar dye family into [Pd2L4] self-assemblies, investigating their performance in different ligands and color ranges, showing potential applications in chiroptical recognition, photo-redox catalysis, and optical materials. The results demonstrate different behaviors of the self-assemblies based on this new ligand class, such as chiral induction, binding modes distinction, and rearrangement to new structures.

A Self-Assembled Cage for Wide-Scope Chiral Recognition in Water

Guangcheng Wu et al.

Summary: This study reports a self-assembled anionic homochiral octahedral cage structure with stability, internal and external binding sites, and chiral recognition capability, which can take advantage of the hydrophobic effect for host-guest recognition in water. The CD signal intensity of the cage is proportionally related to the ee value of the chiral guest, allowing for quantitative determination.

Hierarchical Two-Level Supramolecular Chirality of an Achiral Anthracene-Based Tetracationic Nanotube in Water

Hao Nian et al.

Summary: In this study, an achiral anthracene-based tetracationic nanotube was reported to exhibit two levels of supramolecular chirality. The nanotube shows conformationally adaptive host-guest complexation with nucleoside triphosphates and twisted packing of chiral host-guest complexes in water. Interestingly, the nanotube demonstrates chiral recognition for ATP/GTP and CTP/UTP through structural transformation, leading to adaptive chirality with opposite CD responses, and promoting strong circularly polarized luminescence in water.

Saucer[n]arenes: Synthesis, Structure, Complexation, and Guest-Induced Circularly Polarized Luminescence Property

Jing Li et al.

Summary: In this study, saucer[n]arenes were synthesized through one-pot condensation and showed strong fluorescence properties as well as forming complexes with ammonium salts. Chiral quaternary ammonium salts were able to induce chirality in the inherently chiral saucer[n]arenes, leading to mirror-imaged circular dichroism signals and circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) properties.

Adaptive chirality of achiral tetraphenylethene-based tetracationic cyclophanes with dual responses of fluorescence and circular dichroism in water

Haiyang Zhang et al.

Summary: Two tetraphenylethene-based tetracationic cyclophanes 1 and 2 were synthesized via a one-step S(N)2 reaction without using any template. These water-soluble cyclophanes exhibited adaptive chirality with dual responses of turn-on fluorescence and induced circular dichroism when combined with nucleotides and DNA in water.
