A terminal neptunium(V)-mono(oxo) complex

Michal S. Dutkiewicz et al.

Summary: Neptunium, the first artificially synthesized actinide, has been less studied compared to its famous neighbors uranium and plutonium. This study reports the synthesis, isolation, and characterization of a stable molecular neptunium(V)-mono(oxo) triamidoamine complex, demonstrating the possibility of stabilizing and studying high-oxidation-state transuranic complexes with a single metal-ligand bond.

Cyclopentadienyl coordination induces unexpected ionic Am-N bonding in an americium bipyridyl complex

Brian N. Long et al.

Summary: Variations in bonding and coordination environment in trivalent lanthanides and actinides can significantly affect their electronic structure and properties. A study reported a dinuclear organometallic americium complex with unexpectedly ionic Am-N bonding and enhanced covalency in the Am-C bonds compared to its neodymium analogue.

[AnI3(THF)4] (An = Np, Pu) Preparation Bypassing An0 Metal Precursors: Access to Np3+/Pu3+ Nonaqueous and Organometallic Complexes

Conrad A. P. Goodwin et al.

Summary: Direct comparison of homologous molecules allows the elucidation of changes in reactivity patterns, redox processes, and bonding properties across a series of elements. Synthetic routes for Np and Pu research have been hindered, but the development of new methods using widely available precursors can potentially transform research into actinide periodicity. The synthesis of An-iodide molecules and the characterization of Np3+-Se bonds represent significant advancements in the field.

Complexation and redox chemistry of neptunium, plutonium and americium with a hydroxylaminato ligand

Jing Su et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the synthesis and characterization of Np(IV), Pu(IV), and Am(III) complexes using the ligand [2-((BuNO)-Bu-t) py]. Experimental results reveal the stability of actinide ions in the +4 oxidation state, supporting both analytical and environmental applications. The research also suggests a trend in the trivalent accessibility of actinides and the inability of the ligand to stabilize higher oxidation states.
