Effect of Cu doping on properties of RHQT processed powder in tube Nb3Al wires

Xuan Yu et al.

Summary: Powder-in-tube (PIT) Nb-3(Al1-xCux) superconducting wires fabricated by rapid heating, quenching and transformation (RHQT) process showed improved Tc, Jc and B-irr performance with the addition of Cu and atomic long range ordering during low temperature annealing. The highest Tc, narrowest ΔTc, and best layer Jc were found in the Nb-3(Al0.97Cu0.03) wire, which also exhibited the highest B-irr value at 8 K and 12 K. The formed A15 phase displayed uniform microstructure and composition, with flux pinning mechanism following surface pinning.

Microstructure and Superconducting Properties of Rapid Heating, Quenching, and Transformation (RHQT) Powder-in-Tube Nb3Al Wires Doped with Sn Element

Yuanbin Hu et al.

Summary: Properties of rapidly heated, quenched, and transformed (RHQT)-treated powder-in-tube (PIT) Nb3Al1-xSnx wires are studied in this paper. The addition of 4% Sn helps enhance the critical transition temperature, critical current density, and irreversibility field of the Nb3Al wires. The addition of Sn also helps to achieve the stoichiometric Nb3Al A15 phase and the formation of precipitations with a size of 10 nm, which may act as flux-pinning centers.
