Axicon optical forces and other kinds of transverse optical forces exerted by off-axis Bessel beams in the Rayleigh regime in the framework of generalized Lorenz-Mie theory

Gerard Gouesbet et al.

Summary: Two recent papers demonstrate the existence of new optical forces and terms when a Rayleigh particle is illuminated by an off-axis Bessel beam, mainly associated with the axicon angle. These forces and terms are found in both longitudinal and transverse forces studies, showing additional axicon forces linked to the usual scattering and gradient forces. These extra-axicon forces are zero when the axicon angle is zero or in an on-axis configuration rather than off-axis.

On the Rayleigh limit of the generalized Lorenz-Mie theory and its formal identification with the dipole theory of forces. I. The longitudinal case

Leonardo A. Ambrosio et al.

Summary: This work analytically demonstrates that the dipole theory for longitudinal forces is in complete agreement with the Rayleigh limit of the generalized Lorenz-Mie theory. It is observed that only a few poles actually contribute to the force exerted on the scatterer.

On longitudinal radiation pressure cross-sections in the generalized Lorenz-Mie theory and their numerical relationship with the dipole theory of forces

Leonardo Andre Ambrosio et al.

Summary: A recent study focused on the longitudinal optical forces exerted by circularly symmetric Bessel beams on point-like particles in the Rayleigh regime of the generalized Lorenz-Mie theory, revealing the existence of non-standard axicon forces. The comparison between optical forces in the GLMT and dipole theory frameworks showed extremely accurate agreement, leading to the conjecture that the Rayleigh limit of GLMT might exactly identify with the usual dipole theory of forces.

Rayleigh limit of generalized Lorenz-Mie theory for on-axis beams and its relationship with the dipole theory of forces. Part II: Non-dark axisymmetric beams of the second kind and dark axisymmetric beams, including a review

Gerard Gouesbet et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the Rayleigh limit of generalized Lorenz-Mie theory for on-axis beams, specifically non-dark axisymmetric beams and dark axisymmetric beams. This work complements previous research and is accompanied by a mini-review to provide an overview of the issue.

On transverse radiation pressure cross-sections in the generalized Lorenz-Mie theory and their numerical relationship with the dipole theory of forces

Leonardo A. Ambrosio et al.

Summary: The relationship between the Rayleigh limit of the generalized Lorenz-Mie theory (GLMT) and the dipole theory of forces is investigated, revealing extreme accuracy between the two approaches up to 3000 decimal places, reinforcing the conjecture that the Rayleigh limit of the GLMT might exactly identify with the traditional dipole theory of forces. However, mathematically uncovering such identification remains to be done.

On the Rayleigh limit of the generalized Lorenz-Mie theory and its formal identification with the dipole theory of forces. II. The transverse case

Leonardo A. Ambrosio et al.

Summary: This study establishes a connection between the Rayleigh limit of the generalized Lorenz-Mie theory and the transverse forces in the Rayleigh limit of the dipole theory, revealing the origin of spin-curl forces in terms of couplings between beam shape coefficients of distinct order and their relationship with what has recently been called nonstandard scattering forces.

Rayleigh limit of generalized Lorenz-Mie theory for on-axis beams and its relationship with the dipole theory of forces. Part I: Non dark axisymmetric beams of the first kind, with the example of Gaussian beams

Gerard Gouesbet et al.

Summary: This study investigates the Rayleigh limit of GLMT in various types of circularly symmetric beams, discussing the optical forces involved, including gradient force, scattering force, and non-standard force. It also explores the relationship between the Rayleigh limit of GLMT and the dipole theory of forces.
