Changlong Li et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a reduced-order electrochemical model (ROEM) for lithium-ion batteries, which simplifies the electrolyte diffusion process to improve computational efficiency while maintaining accuracy. The ROEM model demonstrates high prediction accuracy for electrolyte concentration, electrolyte diffusion overpotential, and terminal voltage, with a computing speed at least 600 times faster than the rigorous P2D model.

Summary: This paper proposes an improved reduced-order electrochemical model (iROEM) with guaranteed observability, which contributes to the development of advanced battery management system. The iROEM, derived by reconstructing solid phase equations and reducing electrolyte concentration equations, shows high model fidelity and less computational complexity. The observability analysis and comparative study demonstrate the effectiveness of the iROEM for lithium-ion battery electrochemical model in BMS applications.

Finding a better fit for lithium ion batteries: A simple, novel, load dependent, modified equivalent circuit model and parameterization method

Xiao Hua et al.

Summary: This study introduces a novel parameter identification method and modified equivalent circuit model for lithium ion batteries, showing significant improvements in accuracy during drive cycle and constant current load validations for a large format lithium iron phosphate prismatic cell. The modified ECM considers switching RC network values for each phase, resulting in better accuracy especially at low state-of-charge for all lithium ion batteries. Training different characterization tests and experimental data across a complete State-of-Charge (SoC) and temperature range enables a smooth transition between identified parameters, leading to an improved model accuracy compared to conventional techniques.

Robin Drees et al.

Summary: Formation of lithium-ion batteries is a time-consuming process that traditionally involves slow charging and discharging cycles to ensure good cell performance. However, this study introduces an electrode equivalent circuit model to optimize fast charging profiles for NMC622/G batteries, leading to a significant reduction in formation time and cost. Fast charging formation procedures were successfully applied to pouch cells, showing similar capacity performance and fade compared to cells with conventional slow charge formations.
