Layered Oxygen-Deficient Double Perovskites as Promising Cathode Materials for Solid Oxide Fuel Cells

Andrei I. Klyndyuk et al.

Summary: The development of new functional materials for solid oxide fuel cells and solid oxide electrolysis cells is of utmost importance. Layered oxygen-deficient double perovskites show high electrocatalytic activity, chemical and thermomechanical compatibility with solid electrolytes, and stability at elevated temperatures, making them promising cathode materials for intermediate temperature operation. This review summarizes the available literature on their crystal structure, thermal, electrotransport-related and other functional properties, with a focus on the latest approaches to improving their characteristics.

Copper doped SrFe0.9-xCuxW0.1O3-δ (x=0-0.3) perovskites as cathode materials for IT-SOFCs

Chuangang Yao et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of Cu doping on SrFe0.9-xCuxW0.1O3-delta samples as SOFC cathode materials. Cu doping decreased the oxygen content, leading to decreased electrical conductivity and increased thermal expansion coefficient. Within a certain range, Cu doping can reduce ASR values and enhance the activation energy for ORR.

Insights into the oxygen reduction reaction on Cu-doped SrFeO3-δ cathode for solid oxide fuel cells

Qiang Sun et al.

Summary: The perovskite oxides SrFe1-xCuxO3-delta were evaluated as potential cathodes for intermediate temperature solid oxide fuel cells in this study. It was found that Cu doping affects the crystal structure and conductivity of the material, with SrFe0.7Cu0.3O3-delta showing the best catalytic performance for oxygen reduction reaction. The research also confirmed that introducing Cu reduces the formation energy of oxygen vacancies, providing favorable conditions for oxygen vacancy production in Cu-doped SrFeO3.
