Adewale George Adeniyi et al.

Summary: This study focused on the crystallographic, functional group, and microstructural analysis of oil palm biochar-reinforced hybrid polystyrene composite doped with aluminium. The addition of aluminium induced crystalline properties in the composite, as seen in XRD analysis, and the chemical interactions between biochar filler and aluminium dopant affected the FTIR peaks. Additionally, the microstructural analysis showed improved interfacial adhesion with increased aluminium composition.

An empirical review of the recent advances in treatment of natural fibers for reinforced plastic composites

Joshua O. Ighalo et al.

Summary: The paper reviews recent advances in the treatment of natural fibers before their utilization in reinforced composites over the last 5 years, focusing on experimental methodology and the impact of treatment on final composite properties. It identifies important treatment steps, empirical methodology, draws fundamental conclusions, and discusses future research prospects. The studies predominantly used NaOH as the reagent with room temperature for most processes, but some raised temperature to improve reagent penetration. Treated fibers showed enhanced bonding and mechanical properties, with a future focus expected on developing novel treatment techniques for further property improvements.
