Electrocatalytic Site Activity Enhancement via Orbital Overlap in A2MnRuO7 (A = Dy3+, Ho3+, and Er3+) Pyrochlore Nanostructures

V Celorrio et al.

Summary: The study investigates the structure-activity relationship of A(2)RuMnO(7) nanoparticles, demonstrating that orbital mixing of Ru, Mn, and O promotes high density of states for oxygen electrocatalysis. The pyrochlore nanoparticles show higher activity than binary RuO2 and MnO2 towards oxygen reduction reactions in alkaline solutions, with Dy2RuMnO7 exhibiting the highest activity among them. The enhanced catalytic activity is attributed to the mixing of Ru and Mn d-orbitals and O p-orbitals at the conduction band, which strongly overlaps with the redox energy of O-2 in solution.

Tetradiketone macrocycle for divalent aluminium ion batteries

Dong-Joo Yoo et al.

Summary: The authors demonstrated the feasibility of using tetradiketone macrocycles for aluminium ion batteries by adjusting the stability of discharged states. Most aluminium ion batteries do not utilize multivalent ion storage, relying instead on monovalent complex ions, limiting the full exploitation of aluminium's advantages.

Magnetism and electrical transport in Y-doped layered iridate Sr2IrO4

Imtiaz Noor Bhatti et al.

Summary: In this study, structural, magnetic and electronic properties in Y-doped layered iridate were investigated, revealing that Y-doping induces a charge conversion from Ir4+ to Ir3+ without significantly altering the magnetic and electronic states. The magnetoresistance data showed an interesting sign change at low temperatures, attributed to an interplay between spin-orbit coupling and magnetic moment.

Effect of Ce doping on the structural, transport and magnetic properties of Sr2IrO4 epitaxial films

You-Shan Zhang et al.

Summary: The doped Sr2IrO4 epitaxial film maintains a wide range of Mott variable-range hopping characteristics in transport, while magnetic properties and Raman characteristic peaks become weakened, proportional to the doping concentration. These observations can be attributed to localization caused by disorder after Ce doping and the presence of structural defects. The epitaxial strain may lead to important differences between Sr2IrO4 epitaxial thin films and bulk single crystals.

Suppression of spinodal instability by disorder in an athermal system

Tapas Bar et al.

Summary: Asymmetric critical slowing down and dynamical scaling exponent were observed during the thermally-induced metal-insulator transition of MnNiSn based Heusler alloy, indicating that the metastable phase in the cooling branch may approach spinodal instability. Additionally, extended disorder during heating triggers excess heterogeneous nucleation before reaching the spinodal point, as supported by zero-temperature random field Ising model simulations.
