Engineering Cationic Sulfur-Doped Co3O4 Architectures with Exposing High-Reactive (112) Facets for Photoelectrocatalytic Water Purification

Yanwei Di et al.

Summary: The study successfully constructed hierarchical cationic sulfur-doped Co3O4 architectures with highly exposed (112) facets by introducing L-cysteine, showing superior PEC activities and long-term stability. The highly exposed reactive facets promoted carrier transport and diffusion during the PEC process, while cationic sulfur doping on the lattice of Co3O4 narrowed the band gap to extend the photoadsorption range and improve the lifetime of active species. This work proves that the SC-1.8 architectures with highly exposed (112) facets are a promising PEC catalyst and presents a new strategy for constructing an active PEC catalyst.

Hierarchical hollow WO3 microspheres with tailored surface oxygen vacancies for boosting photocatalytic selective conversion of biomass-derived alcohols

Bei Jin et al.

Summary: Selective conversion of biomass-derived alcohols into carbonyl compounds is achieved through visible-light photocatalysis over hierarchical hollow WO3 microspheres with tailored surface oxygen vacancies. The strong synergetic effect between hierarchical spherical cavity and surface oxygen vacancies boosts the photoactivity and selectivity, while also enhancing light-harvesting ability and improving photoelectron-hole separation efficiency. This photocatalyst shows promising potential in practical applications and provides new insights for designing highly active photocatalysts in green and sustainable organic transformation reactions.

Mesoporous (001)-TiO2 nanocrystals with tailored Ti3+ and surface oxygen vacancies for boosting photocatalytic selective conversion of aromatic alcohols

Dianfeng Li et al.

Summary: Selective conversion of aromatic alcohols into carbonyl compounds using mesoporous (001)-TiO2 nanocrystals with tailored Ti3+ and surface oxygen vacancies has shown significantly boosted photoactivity under visible-light irradiation. This enhancement is attributed to the strong synergetic effect of exposed (001) facets, Ti3+ self-doping, and surface oxygen vacancies, which improve reactant activation, visible-light absorption, and photoelectron-hole separation efficiency. A plausible photocatalytic mechanism for the reaction has been elucidated based on identified active species in capture experiments, providing insights for designing efficient photocatalysts in green organic transformations.
