The inspection paradox in stochastic resetting

Arnab Pal et al.

Summary: The inspection paradox challenges the common belief that processes that have already begun will end before those which have just started, highlighting the role of randomness in determining outcomes.

Mitigating long transient time in deterministic systems by resetting

Arnob Ray et al.

Summary: This study explores the use of resetting in dynamical systems to expedite the process of reaching a stable equilibrium point, reducing transient time and fluctuations. The results demonstrate the emergence of an optimal restart time that minimizes the mean transient time globally, providing insights into controlling transients in dynamical systems.

Stochastic resetting in the Kramers problem: A Monte Carlo approach

Julia Cantisan et al.

Summary: This study investigates the application of the theory of stochastic resetting in the Kramers problem, revealing that resetting can improve search efficiency even when the resetting position is on the opposite side of the escape point.

Stochastic resetting with stochastic returns using external trap

Deepak Gupta et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a method of non-instantaneous resetting by utilizing an external confining trap potential to drive a Brownian particle back to its origin. The system reaches a non-equilibrium steady state, which is analyzed in detail, and numerical simulations show excellent agreement with the theoretical predictions. The general formalism developed in this study can be applied to realistic return protocols, offering a wide range of possibilities for further theoretical and experimental applications.

Peculiarities of random walks with resetting in a one-dimensional chain

L. N. Christophorov

Summary: The main characteristics of random walks with resetting on nodes of a (semi)infinite chain are different from those in the classical continuous diffusion model. In a finite chain, the optimal resetting rate that minimizes the mean first passage time depends critically on the position of the resetting node.

Searching for clusters of targets under stochastic resetting

Georgia R. Calvert et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigated diffusion under stochastic resetting to the origin in one dimension and calculated the mean time to find two targets placed on either side of the origin. Surprisingly, increasing the distance between the targets was found to potentially decrease the overall search time. Optimization of the arrangement of two targets in different scenarios was also explored and recursive expressions for finding multiple targets were derived. The relevance of these findings to real-world problems, such as protein locating clusters of DNA lesions, was discussed.

Optimal mean first-passage time of a Brownian searcher with resetting in one and two dimensions: experiments, theory and numerical tests

F. Faisant et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigates the optimal mean time for a Brownian particle to reach a target with resetting in one or two dimensions. Different resetting protocols were derived and tested, revealing a phase transition at a critical value, with calculations, experimental setup, and limitations discussed.

Resetting transition is governed by an interplay between thermal and potential energy

Somrita Ray et al.

Summary: The study explores how resetting affects the completion time of a dynamic process, specifically in terms of an interplay between thermal and potential energy. The results demonstrate the significance of this interaction in understanding resetting transitions in various stochastic processes.

Random walks on complex networks with multiple resetting nodes: A renewal approach

Shuang Wang et al.

Summary: This paper investigates discrete-time random walks on complex networks with multiple resetting nodes, deriving expressions for the occupation probability and mean first-passage time. The advantage of resetting processes to multiple resetting nodes in global search is demonstrated. The distribution of resetting probabilities is optimized to minimize the mean first-passage time averaged over distinct nodes.

Dynamical phase transition in the first-passage probability of a Brownian motion

B. Besga et al.

Summary: The study investigates the first-passage time distribution for a freely diffusing particle in one dimension, showing a sharp dynamical phase transition from a two-peak to a single-peak structure. This transition is influenced by the competition of two characteristic timescales and is robust across different initial conditions and stochastic processes. The experimental results align closely with theoretical predictions.
