On the Unsteady Steepening of Short Gravity Waves Near the Crests of Longer Waves in the Absence of Generation or Dissipation

Charles Peureux et al.

Summary: The research found that the wave action equation predicts that groups of short waves propagating over long monochromatic waves are unstable, which may lead to an increased probability of breaking. Through theoretical and numerical analysis, a new instability that causes short wave action to concentrate around the long wave crests was discovered.

A global wave parameter database for geophysical applications. Part 3: Improved forcing and spectral resolution

Matias Alday et al.

Summary: The numerical wave model has been significantly improved through updating forcing fields, adjusting spectral discretization, and tuning wind wave growth and swell dissipation parameters. The model calibration and performance analysis show higher accuracy compared to previous versions, especially in strong current regions and for wave heights above 7m. Use of satellite altimeter data and buoy data for validation enhances the accuracy and reliability of the model predictions.
