Understanding Self-Assembly and the Stabilization of Liquid/Liquid Interfaces: The Importance of Ligand Tail Branching and Oil-Phase Solvation

Uvinduni I. Premadasa et al.

Summary: The study found that ligands with branched hydrophobic tails form stable interfaces at lower concentrations compared to those with linear alkyl tails. The lack of an oil phase and associated solvation leads to markedly different interfacial properties. Therefore, interactions in both the polar and nonpolar phases are essential in understanding self-assembly at the oil/liquid interface.

Mapping the Interfacial Chemistry and Structure of Partially Fluorinated Bottlebrush Polymers and Their Linear Analogues

Azhad U. Chowdhury et al.

Summary: This study utilized SFG technology and molecular dynamic simulations to reveal characteristics of polymer interfaces, including the ordering and orientations of key functional groups. Results show that different architectures of polymers exhibit differences in surface orientation, but molecular weight or architecture does not strongly impact surface properties.

Nanoparticle-Induced Disorder at Complex Liquid-Liquid Interfaces: Effects of Curvature and Compositional Synergy on Functional Surfaces

Colin M. Basham et al.

Summary: The self-assembly of surfactant monolayers at interfaces plays a crucial role in various tasks, and the study of coassembly mechanisms and intermolecular interactions is still an emerging and challenging field. Gold nanoparticles striped with hydrophobic and hydrophilic ligands interact with phospholipids at a liquid-liquid interface, resulting in surface-bound complexes. The research demonstrates that the interactions between nanoparticles and phospholipids drive the assembly of lipid-nanoparticle complexes at the interface, enhancing lipid adsorption.
