Heterostructuring noble-metal-free 1T' phase MoS2 with g-C3N4 hollow nanocages to improve the photocatalytic H2 evolution activity

Yanjun Xue et al.

Summary: In this work, a 1T'-MoS2/g-C3N4 nanocage heterostructure was prepared by loading 2D semi-metal noble-metal-free 1T'-MoS2 on g-C3N4 nanocages. The heterostructure exhibited stronger light absorption capacity, larger specific surface area, and effective inhibition of photoinduced carrier recombination. It achieved a hydrogen evolution rate of 1949 μmol h-1 g-1, outperforming pure g-C3N4 nanocages, Pt/g-C3N4 nanocages and nanosheets, 1T'-MoS2/g-C3N4 nanosheets, and 2H-MoS2/g-C3N4 nanocages. The 1T'-MoS2/g-C3N4 nanocage heterostructure is a promising photocatalyst for green H2 production.

Efficient photocatalytic hydrogen evolution over graphdiyne boosted with a cobalt sulfide formed S-scheme heterojunction

Zhiliang Jin et al.

Summary: Graphdiyne (GDY), a novel two-dimensional carbon hybrid material, has attracted significant attention due to its unique and excellent properties. This study reports new progress in the preparation of a composite material, Co9S8-GDY-CuI, using CuI powder as a catalytic material and a facile hydrothermal method. The Co9S8-GDY-CuI exhibited hydrogen production activity 10.29 times higher than that of pure GDY in the sensitization system. Characterization techniques provided evidence for the successful preparation of the material and its superior photocatalytic activity. A possible reaction mechanism and the effects of Co9S8 nanoparticles were also discussed.

EDTA-assisted synthesis of amorphous BiSx nanodots for improving photocatalytic hydrogen-evolution rate of TiO2

Lin Dong et al.

Summary: Compared with crystalline metal sulfides, amorphous metal sulfides can enhance photocatalytic hydrogen-evolution activity by providing more unsaturated S atoms. In this study, amorphous BiSx nanodots were successfully loaded on TiO2 surface as an efficient H-2-evolution cocatalyst, significantly boosting the photocatalytic H-2-production performance. Additionally, the amorphous BiSx nanodots can also serve as a general cocatalyst to promote the H-2-generation activity of other typical photo-catalysts.

Photocatalytic hydrogen generation via water splitting using ZIF-67 derived Co3O4@C/TiO2

Haitham M. El-Bery et al.

Summary: Water splitting via photocatalysis using titanium dioxide holds great potential for hydrogen gas generation. In this study, cobalt oxide embedded nitrogen-doped carbon (Co3O4@C) was synthesized using zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF-67) as a sacrificial precursor, which showed significant enhancement in photocatalytic performance and hydrogen generation rates when used as a co-catalyst with TiO2. The Co3O4@C/TiO2 system exhibited recyclability for more than four cycles without significant loss of performance, indicating its potential for further exploration in effective photocatalysis.
