Area-Selective Atomic Layer Deposition on Chemically Similar Materials: Achieving Selectivity on Oxide/Oxide Patterns

Tzu-Ling Liu et al.

Summary: Area-selective atomic layer deposition (AS-ALD) is typically limited by the requirement of substrate materials with substantially different chemical properties. This study introduces a new process using self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) as inhibitors for achieving selective ALD on patterns with chemically similar materials. By utilizing differential reactivity of SAMs on various dielectric surfaces, the research demonstrates high selectivity for ZnO and Al2O3 ALD, opening up new possibilities for applications in next generation electronic devices.

X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy and Resonant X-ray Spectroscopy Investigations of Interactions between Thin Metal Catalyst Films and Amorphous Titanium Dioxide Photoelectrode Protection Layers

Matthias H. Richter et al.

Summary: The use of electrochemistry, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and resonant X-ray spectroscopy has revealed that while iridium (Ir) and nickel (Ni) electrocatalysts for the oxygen-evolution reaction have similar overpotentials in alkaline media, the interfaces with a-TiO2 exhibit different behaviors. Nickel (Ni) and iridium (Ir) both cause band bending in a-TiO2 for hole conduction, while gold (Au) produces a flat-band interface that limits hole conduction without introducing new band gap states.

Comparison of the heat-treatment effect on carrier dynamics in TiO2 thin films deposited by different methods

Ramsha Khan et al.

Summary: This study compares three popular deposition methods for polycrystalline titanium dioxide thin films and demonstrates that heat treatment significantly increases the lifetime of photo-carriers. The research also shows that different fabrication methods result in variations in photo-carrier dynamics and photocatalytic activity of the films.
