Recent advances in application of transition metal phosphides for photocatalytic hydrogen production

Yang Yang et al.

Summary: The research suggests that transition metal phosphides may become a rising star as a replacement for noble metal cocatalysts, achieving high efficiency and low cost in photocatalytic hydrogen (H-2) production. This technology has the potential to address global energy and environmental issues.

Building {0001} and {1011} facet heterojunctions on hexagonal pyramid CdS single crystals with high photoactivity and photostability for hydrogen evolution

Hao Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, CdS hexagonal pyramid single crystals with co-exposed {0001} and {1011} crystal planes were prepared by the hydrothermal method, forming a type II heterojunction to enhance the photocatalytic hydrogen production activity. The CdS hexagonal pyramid exhibited high apparent quantum efficiency at 420 nm and maintained high photocatalytic activity even after a 100-hour cycle test.

Insight into the piezo-photo coupling effect of PbTiO3/CdS composites for piezo-photocatalytic hydrogen production

Xueyan Huang et al.

Summary: The study focused on the potential of the alternating piezoelectric field induced by periodic stress to enhance the performance of PbTiO3/CdS heterojunction complexes in H-2 production. Results showed that the introduction of alternating piezoelectric potential significantly increased the H-2 production rate, outperforming individual piezo-catalysis and photocatalysis. Finite element simulation further demonstrated the superior piezoelectric potential difference in the PbTiO3/CdS heterostructure compared to pure PbTiO3 or pure CdS.

High potential and robust ternary LaFeO3/CdS/carbon quantum dots nanocomposite for photocatalytic H2 evolution under sunlight illumination

Saikumar Manchala et al.

Summary: The use of carbon quantum dots to prepare a ternary nanocomposite enables efficient hydrogen production under sunlight, achieving a hydrogen evolution rate significantly higher than other composite materials. Encapsulation of CQDs with the LaFeO3/CdS heterojunction facilitates easy and efficient separation of photo-generated excitons, contributing to the remarkable efficiencies in sustainable hydrogen production.

Anchoring single Pt atoms and black phosphorene dual co-catalysts on CdS nanospheres to boost visible-light photocatalytic H2 evolution

Rongjuan Feng et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel dual co-catalyst of black phosphorene (BP) and single Pt atoms on CdS nanospheres was prepared for efficient visible-light-driven hydrogen generation. The single Pt atoms interacted strongly with BP and CdS surfaces through photo-reduction and covalent bonds, enhancing the photocatalytic performance. The results demonstrate the synergistic effect of single Pt atoms and BP on spatial charge separation, leading to a significant improvement in the hydrogen evolution rate.

Hetero-phase MoC-Mo2C nanoparticles for enhanced photocatalytic H2-production activity of TiO2

Jinfeng Liu et al.

Summary: This study introduces a novel approach to enhance the photocatalytic activity for hydrogen evolution by introducing MoC into Mo2C to form carbon-modified nanoparticles, which are eventually coupled with TiO2 through electrostatic self-assembly. The results show that the carbon layer and hetero-phase MoC-Mo2C structure significantly improve the H2 generation rate, leading to a high-efficiency TiO2/MoC-Mo2C@C photocatalyst.
