Hidden Halogen-Bonding Ability of Fluorine Manifesting in the Hydrogen-Bond Configurations of Hydrogen Fluoride

Summary: This study explores the intermolecular interactions of hydrogen fluoride and reveals that the extra-point model works well for the covalently bonded fluorine atom. The significantly bent hydrogen-bond configuration of hydrogen fluoride is a manifestation of its latent halogen-bonding ability, which is hidden by its strongly electronegative nature.
