Sorption behaviors of petroleum on micro-sized polyethylene aging for different time in seawater

Liu Gao et al.

Summary: This study found that the adsorption capacity of micro-sized polyethylene to petroleum increases with prolonged aging time and smaller particle sizes. The adsorption behavior is controlled by diffusion of pores, liquid film diffusion, and surface adsorption.

Design, fabrication, and characterization of a facile superhydrophobic and superoleophilic mesh-based membrane for selective oil-water separation

Seyedabbas Rasouli et al.

Summary: A superhydrophobic and superoleophilic stainless steel mesh-based membrane was fabricated using a one-stage dip-coating technique, varying the size of silane alkyl chains and the ratio of micro-to-nanoparticles for optimal water contact angle. The long-chain silane resulted in higher WCA, while increasing the ratio of nanoparticles to microparticles enhanced the hydrophobicity of the membrane.

Effects of Surfactant and Hydrophobic Nanoparticles on the Crude Oil-Water Interfacial Tension

Xu Jiang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impacts of Span 80 surfactant and hydrophobic SiO2 nanoparticles on the crude oil-water interfacial characteristics. It was found that the presence of nanoparticles led to higher crude oil-water interfacial tensions, especially at low surfactant concentrations. The effect of nanoparticle concentration was less significant at high surfactant concentrations.

Emulsions in porous media from the perspective of produced water re-injection-A review

Ilgar Azizov et al.

Summary: During offshore production, produced water is typically discharged into the sea, but re-injection is considered more environmentally friendly and cost-efficient with challenges in injectivity. Knowledge gaps exist in research on permeability reduction due to the flow of diluted oil-in-water emulsions.

Ultra-robust superwetting hierarchical membranes constructed by coordination complex networks for oily water treatment

Yuanyuan Zhao et al.

Summary: The study developed a superhydrophilic and underwater superoleophobic membrane using amino-functionalized polyhedral oligosiloxane/proanthocyanidins (POSS-NH2/PC) surface coating and metal-phenol networks (MPN). The membrane exhibited high stability in strong acidic or alkaline conditions and achieved over 99.0% oil rejections in oil-in-water emulsion separation. The membrane also showed excellent anti-oil fouling performance after three cycles of oil/water separation, indicating potential for design of versatile superwetting materials.

A review of treatment technologies for produced water in offshore oil and gas fields

Yiqian Liu et al.

Summary: Offshore oil and gas production has led to the increase in popularity of produced water (PW), the largest byproduct of this industry. PW, a complex mixture of organic and inorganic substances, contributes significantly to oil pollution and has long-term adverse effects on the ecosystem. Current PW treatment methods combine traditional technologies with emerging methods, with a focus on enhancing treatment with environmentally friendly chemical agents and information control technology to create a green, efficient, secure, and intelligent PW treatment system for future offshore oil and gas production.
