Extra-Heavy Crude Oil Viscosity Reduction Using and Reusing Magnetic Copper Ferrite Nanospheres

Lucia Mateus et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the synthesis, use, and reuse of magnetic copper ferrite nanospheres (CFNS) to reduce the viscosity of extra-heavy oil. The CFNS were synthesized with a mean particle size of 150 nm and showed potential for repeated cycles of asphaltene adsorption and desorption. Rheology tests indicated that CFNS at a concentration of 500 mg/L achieved the highest viscosity reduction of 18%, with SiO2 nanoparticles showing similar results. The microstructure of extra-heavy oil changed significantly upon the addition of CFNS, as observed through a decrease in elastic and viscous moduli.

Potential Application of Fe2O3 and Functionalized SiO2 Nanoparticles for Inhibiting Asphaltene Precipitation in Live Oil at Reservoir Conditions

Fatemeh Mahmoudi Alemi et al.

Summary: This study synthesized Fe2O3 and functionalized SiO2 nanoparticles to investigate their effects on asphaltene precipitation and aggregation in live oils. The results showed that Fe2O3 nanoparticles better controlled asphaltene precipitation compared to F-SiO2, leading to increased stability and reduced asphaltene structure size. TEM images confirmed these results and indicated an increase in aromatic sheet interlayer spacing.
