Accurate characterization of full pore size distribution of tight sandstones by low-temperature nitrogen gas adsorption and high-pressure mercury intrusion combination method

Shuaishi Fu et al.

Summary: This paper established a new approach for full pore size characterization in tight reservoirs through various experiments, and analyzed the petrology feature and pore properties of tight sandstones. The results showed that the QSDFT method can accurately characterize the pore size distribution of micro/mesopores in these reservoirs.

Effect of adsorbed moisture on the pore size distribution of marine-continental transitional shales: Insights from lithofacies differences and clay swelling

Pei Li et al.

Summary: The distribution of pore water in gas shale reservoirs has a significant impact on gas content and resource evaluation. This study found that adsorbed moisture in transitional clay-rich shales can be divided into different types of water in micro- and non-micropores. Additionally, factors such as thermal maturity, total organic carbon, clay, and carbonate are correlated with adsorbed moisture and pore structure.

Multidimensional dynamic NMR correlations in sedimentary rock cores at different liquid saturations

Aina Marie Lokkevik Bratland et al.

Summary: In this study, an experimental approach was presented for characterizing water and oil in rock core materials based on three-dimensional correlations. The results showed that diffusion encoding in multi-dimensional correlation experiments can lead to significant signal loss for liquids with high diffusivity near mineral surfaces. Negative correlations between diffusion and gradient displacements were observed for confined liquids in all saturation states, providing a more detailed description of their local distribution.

A numerical study of field strength and clay morphology impact on NMR transverse relaxation in sandstones

Yingzhi Cui et al.

Summary: In this study, the relationship between rock morphology, applied magnetic field strength, resulting relaxation regimes, and observed NMR relaxation responses is investigated numerically. A fine-scale kaolinite model based on SEM images is introduced to address limitations in the discretization of clays typical for micro-CT images. The spatial analysis of relaxation regimes for three different types of sandstone as a function of external magnetic field strength is performed.
