Reagent and Catalyst Capsules: A Chemical Delivery System for Reaction Screening and Parallel Synthesis

Niginia Borlinghaus et al.

Summary: Commercially available hydroxypropyl methylcellulose capsules are utilized as a convenient chemical delivery system containing all reagents needed for important transition-metal-catalyzed reactions, simplifying the screening of reaction conditions and compound library preparation. These HPMC capsules are easy to prepare, come in different sizes, and can be stored under noninert conditions on the bench.

Scalable Negishi Coupling between Organozinc Compounds and (Hetero)Aryl Bromides under Aerobic Conditions when using Bulk Water or Deep Eutectic Solvents with no Additional Ligands

Giuseppe Dilauro et al.

Summary: The study reports Pd-catalyzed Negishi cross-coupling reactions between organozinc compounds and (hetero)aryl bromides in bulk water under mild conditions, showing high yields, short reaction times, broad substrate scope, and tolerance to various functional groups. The method is scalable and practical, with easy recycling of the catalyst and the eutectic mixture or water.

Advancing Air- and Moisture-Compatible s-Block Organometallic Chemistry Using Sustainable Solvents

Sergio E. Garcia-Garrido et al.

Summary: This Minireview challenges the conventional wisdom by focusing on recent advances in using s-block organometallic reagents under air, at room temperature, and in the presence of moisture. The success of these approaches relies on the use of sustainable solvents and has been demonstrated for various organic transformations. The choice of solvent is crucial in affecting the constitution of s-block organometallic species in solution.

Introducing deep eutectic solvents in enolate chemistry: synthesis of 1-arylpropan-2-ones under aerobic conditions

Paola Vitale et al.

Summary: The enolization of 1-arylpropan-2-ones and their fluorinated derivatives, followed by alpha-functionalization with nucleophilic addition and substitution reactions, has been achieved in the environmentally friendly eutectic mixture choline chloride/urea, under aerobic conditions. The new protocol was also demonstrated through the synthesis of a small selection of building-block like molecules via Pd-catalyzed alpha-arylation reactions.

Fully recyclable Bronsted acid catalyst systems

Christopher B. Watson et al.

Summary: Homogeneous and heterogeneous sulfonic acid catalysts are commonly used in organic chemistry, but this study explores the use of recyclable polymeric solvent and soluble catalysts which show excellent recyclability in organic synthesis. The non-volatile solvent system and phase-anchored catalysts demonstrated effectiveness in esterifications, acetalizations, and multicomponent condensations, allowing for efficient product separation and recycling through distillation or self-separation.
