Carbon black-polydopamine-ruthenium composite as a recyclable boomerang catalyst for the oxidative cleavage of oleic acid

Sebastian Gamez et al.

Summary: A new composite heterogeneous catalytic system has been proposed for the transformation of cheap unsaturated fatty acids into value-added molecules. The conversion of oleic acid to azelaic and pelargonic ones is specifically studied using a novel composite catalyst inspired by metal recovery technology. The catalyst combines the advantages of homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis in the investigated reaction, showing high efficiency and promising recyclability.

How to Make a Cocktail of Palladium Catalysts with Cola and Alcohol: Heteroatom Doping vs. Nanoscale Morphology of Carbon Supports

Evgeniy O. Pentsak et al.

Summary: Heteroatom-doped carbon materials were successfully prepared from regular and diet cola, which showed increased catalytic activity in Suzuki-Miyaura and Mizoroki-Heck reactions. The effects of phosphorus, nitrogen, and sulfur doping on the carbon support, as well as changes in surface properties, were investigated. The study also revealed the transformation of various palladium particles in a commercial 40% ethanol/water solution.

Heterogeneous Catalysis for Cross-Coupling Reactions: An Underutilized Powerful and Sustainable Tool in the Fine Chemical Industry?

Suhelen Vasquez-Cespedes et al.

Summary: Transition-metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions are crucial in organic chemistry, and the fine chemical industry has been exploring ways to reduce the amounts of transition metals used, with heterogeneous catalysis showing potential benefits. Despite the advantages of heterogeneous catalysis, its utilization in the fine chemical industry has decreased due to perceived difficulties in understanding and reproducibility. However, with the development of new supported metal catalysts, first-row transition metal catalysis, and continuous flow technology, there are tools available to overcome these challenges and promote the use of heterogeneous catalysis for cross-coupling reactions.

Unprecedented high selectivity of n-hexane dehydroaromatization to benzene over metal-free phosphorus-doped activated carbon catalysts

Yong Li et al.

Summary: Phosphorus-doped activated carbon is reported as a highly selective catalyst for the dehydroaromatization of n-hexane to benzene and hydrogen. The catalytic active sites are identified as weak/medium-strength acidic centers on the catalyst surface. This work offers a new alternative for the preparation of metal-free catalysts for the selective functionalization of C-H bonds in n-alkanes.
