Site-Selective C(sp3)-H Alkenylation Using Decatungstate Anion as Photocatalyst

Yi-Ting Wang et al.

Summary: Site-selective C(sp(3))-H alkenylation was achieved under photo-irradiation in the presence of a catalytic decatungstate anion. The reaction successfully combines radical addition/beta-scission sequence with photocatalytic C(sp(3))-H functionalization. The decatungstate anion participates in a chain-repairing step in reactions with weaker C-H bonds.

Direct Photocatalyzed Hydrogen Atom Transfer (HAT) for Aliphatic C-H Bonds Elaboration

Luca Capaldo et al.

Summary: Direct photocatalyzed hydrogen atom transfer (d-HAT) is a preferred method for the synthesis of aliphatic C-H bonds in organic compounds. Selective C-H bond elaboration can be achieved by choosing suitable hydrogen abstractors and reaction additives. This review provides a comprehensive survey of the synthetic applications of photocatalyzed d-HAT.

Ligand Enabled Pd(II)-Catalyzed γ-C(sp3)-H Lactamization of Native Amides

Shuang Liu et al.

Summary: A novel catalytic system was reported for the intramolecular gamma-C-H amination of aliphatic amides derived from amino acids, enabling the convenient synthesis of lactams, isoindolinones, and 2-imidazolidinones. This protocol demonstrates the utility of utilizing N-acyl amino acids as directing groups and cyclization partners, tert-butyl hydrogen peroxide as the sole oxidant, and a broad substrate scope for the construction of important structural cores of medicinal compounds.

Deciphering Reactivity and Selectivity Patterns in Aliphatic C-H Bond Oxygenation of Cyclopentane and Cyclohexane Derivatives

Teo Martin et al.

Summary: A study on the reactions of the cumyloxyl radical with monosubstituted cyclopentanes and cyclohexanes showed that cyclopentanes predominantly functionalize at C-1, while the importance of HAT from C-1 decreases with increasing steric bulk in cyclohexanes. Determinants of site-selectivity include the nature of the HAT reagent, C-H bond strengths, and torsional effects.

Bimodal Evans-Polanyi Relationships in Hydrogen Atom Transfer from C(sp3)-H Bonds to the Cumyloxyl Radical. A Combined Time-Resolved Kinetic and Computational Study

Michela Salamone et al.

Summary: The study investigated the applicability of the Evans-Polanyi relationship in HAT reactions, measured rate constants for HAT from C-H bonds to the cumyloxyl radical, and calculated consistent gas-phase C-H bond dissociation enthalpies. The analysis revealed distinct behaviors for different groups of substrates, indicating a qualitative connection between Bernasconi's principle of nonperfect synchronization and Marcus theory.

Synthesis of Ketodeoxysugars from Acylated Pyranosides Using Photoredox Catalysis and Hydrogen Atom Transfer

Julia A. Turner et al.

Summary: The combined action of a photoredox catalyst, a hydrogen atom transfer mediator, and a hydrogen bond acceptor cocatalyst has been used to successfully transform pyranoside-derived esters into ketodeoxysugars, which are important precursors for synthesizing rare sugar components. Computational studies support a radical lyase-like mechanism for this transformation involving 1,2-acyloxy migration in the radical intermediate.
