A conspicuous 27Al-NMR signal at 72 ppm during isomerization of Keggin Al13 ions

Kieran G. Brunson et al.

Summary: A sharp signal at 72 ppm was observed in Al-27-NMR spectra during the isomerization of Keggin-Al-13 ions in the presence of calcium and glycine. It has been proposed that this signal corresponds to one of the Keggin isomers. The addition of calcium and glycine enhances the conversion of the most common s-isomer of the Keggin series of molecules. Additionally, isomerization of the epsilon-Keggin-Al-13 to the gamma-Keggin-Al-13 isomer was observed in the absence of calcium and glycine at elevated temperatures. Calcium and glycine were previously shown to enhance rates of gamma-Keggin-Al-13 formation.

Summary: Calcium oxide and ferrous oxide have almost no effect on the short-term ordering of aluminosilicates, but with increasing metal oxide content, calcium oxide causes greater depolymerization of the aluminosilicate network structure compared to ferrous oxide.

Effects of amphoteric oxide (Al2O3 and B2O3) on the structure and properties of SiO2-CaO melts by molecular dynamics simulation

Zhisheng Bi et al.

Summary: This study used molecular dynamics simulation to investigate the influence of Al2O3 and B2O3 on the structure and properties of SiO2-CaO-Al2O3 silicate melts. It was found that the Al2O3 content significantly affects the bridging oxygen content and polymerization degree, while B2O3 has a similar impact on the network structure but with stronger basicity compared to Al2O3.

Structure and viscosity of CaO-Al2O3-B2O3-BaO slags with varying mass ratio of BaO to CaO

Harishchandra Singh et al.

Summary: The structure of glassy slags with varying BaO/CaO mass ratio was studied using Raman spectroscopy, MAS-NMR spectroscopy, and PDF, revealing specific coordination modes for boron and aluminum, as well as vibration patterns of aluminate and borate structural units. Viscosity measurements indicated that the viscosity of molten slags increased with higher BaO/CaO mass ratio, attributing to the enhanced polymerization of aluminate network.

Viscosity and structure evolution of CaO-SiO2-MgO-Al2O3-BaO slag with the CaO/SiO2 mass ratio of 0.9

Wenguo Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of BaO on the viscosity and structure evolution of CaO-SiO2-MgO-Al2O3-BaO slag. It was found that the addition of BaO could promote the transformation of structural units within the slag, but higher BaO content led to an increased polymerization degree. The results were supported by structural analysis techniques such as FTIR, Raman spectra, and 27Al MAS-NMR.

Summary: The study found that with the increase of MnO content and substitution of CaO by BaO, the viscosity of slags gradually decreased, while the complexity and polymerization degree of the network structure increased, leading to an increase in viscosity.

Molecular Dynamics Simulations of Melt Structure Properties of CaO-Al2O3-Na2O Slag

Xiaobo Zhang et al.

Summary: This study used molecular dynamics simulations to investigate the impact of Na ions on the structure properties of CaO-Al2O3-Na2O slag. The substitution of Ca2+ ions with Na+ ions stabilizes the structure of the AlO4 tetrahedron and enhances the charge compensation ability while weakening the network modification ability as more Na+ ions replace Ca2+ ions. The transformation of weak non-bridge oxygen (NBO) structures to strong bridge oxygen (BO) structures in the melt contributes to the increase in macroscopic viscosity in slag with high Al content.
