Preparation of enstatite-spinel based glass-ceramics by co-utilization of ferronickel slag and coal fly ash

Wenxing Shang et al.

Summary: This study proposed a new approach to prepare high-quality enstatite-spinel based glass-ceramics from a mixture of ferronickel slag (FNS) and coal fly ash (CFA). By examining the effect of CFA content on the preparation process, the study showed that controlling the crystallization process can achieve excellent product properties.

The effect of chromite ore addition on crystallization kinetics of basalt based machinable glass-ceramics

Ediz Ercenk et al.

Summary: The study investigated the properties of machinable glass-ceramic materials produced from basalt and chromite ore. Three different compositions were prepared by adding chromite ore in different ratios to the main composition, and the effects of chromium and iron oxides in the chromite ore were studied. It was found that the addition of chromite had positive effects on crystallization and machinability, with iron oxide showing a greater influence on crystallization. The study also included crystallization kinetic studies and characterization using SEM and XRD.

Migration and transformation of heavy metals in glass-ceramics and the mechanism of stabilization

Pi Yilin et al.

Summary: This research focused on the stabilization of single heavy metals in glass-ceramics, using zinc and copper as representatives, to study the phase transformation and stabilization mechanism. Results showed changes in physical properties of glass-ceramics with increased heavy metal content, but effective solidification of heavy metals was achieved, with stability achieved at levels above 1.5 wt%.

Thermo-magnetic properties of Fe2O3-doped lithium zinc silicate glass-ceramics for magnetic applications

Mohamad M. E. Shakdofa et al.

Summary: This study investigated the crystallization behavior and thermo-magnetic characteristics of iron-doped glass-ceramics, where the addition of Fe2O3 and Al2O3, as well as lower annealing temperatures, resulted in glass-ceramics with a more uniform and dense microstructure. The doped glass-ceramics exhibited increased density, improved thermal expansion coefficients, and enhanced magnetic properties, making them suitable for various magnetic applications, including cancer hyperthermia treatment.

Influence of nucleating agents on crystallization and electrical properties of SiO2-MgO-MgF2-K2O mica glass-ceramics

Qian Ren et al.

Summary: The addition of ZrO2 and TiO2 to mica glass-ceramics based on the SiO2-MgO-MgF2-K2O system has a significant impact on their properties. These additives effectively increase the viscosity and crystallization temperatures of the glass, thus affecting the electrical properties of the glass-ceramics.

Combination of Na-Ca-phosphate and fluorapatite in wollastonite-diopside glass-ceramic: degradation and biocompatibility

Ebrahim A. Mahdy et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of introducing Na-Ca-phosphate and/or fluorapatite in bioactive wollastonite-diopside. The results showed that NCP-containing WD glassceramic had the lowest density and microhardness values, while the combination of Na-Ca-phosphate and fluorapatite led to increased cytotoxicity. The properties of WD glass-ceramics can be tailored for biomedical applications.

Preparation and characterization of enstatite-leucite glass-ceramics for dental restoration

G. A. Khater et al.

Summary: In this study, seven different compositions of enstatite and leucite glass-ceramic materials were prepared and characterized, with the 70% enstatite and 30% leucite sample showing superior microhardness, flexural strength, and chemical durability. The results suggest that the properties of density, mechanical strength, and chemical resistance improve with increasing enstatite content.
