Irisin Contributes to Neuroprotection by Promoting Mitochondrial Biogenesis After Experimental Subarachnoid Hemorrhage

Tianqi Tu et al.

Summary: This study found that irisin treatment improved neurobehavioral scores, reduced neuronal apoptosis, and alleviated oxidative stress after SAH. Additionally, administration of exogenous irisin preserved mitochondrial morphology and promoted mitochondrial biogenesis. The protective effects of irisin were partially mediated by the mitochondrial uncoupling protein-2 (UCP-2) inhibitor.

MFGE8 mitigates brain injury in a rat model of SAH by maintaining vascular endothelial integrity via TIGβ5/PI3K/CXCL12 signaling

Jikai Wang et al.

Summary: This study found that MFGE8 promotes endothelial regeneration and mitigates endothelial DNA damage through the activation of the TIG beta 5/PI3K/CXCL12 signaling pathway. Experimental results suggest that MFGE8 has a protective effect against microthrombosis induced by SAH.

Secondary mechanisms of injury and viable pathophysiological targets in intracerebral hemorrhage

Wendy Bautista et al.

Summary: Intracerebral hemorrhage can be divided into primary and secondary phases, with current treatments focusing on reducing hematoma expansion and maintaining blood pressure. However, lack of therapies targeting secondary injury and inflexible trial designs may contribute to the lack of clinical efficacy in major ICH trials.

Exercise hormone irisin is a critical regulator of cognitive function

Mohammad R. Islam et al.

Summary: Irisin, a cleaved and circulating form of the exercise-induced membrane protein FNDC5, has been shown to mediate the beneficial effects of exercise on cognitive function, and improve cognitive function in mouse models of Alzheimer's disease. Irisin plays a crucial role in regulating cognitive benefits of exercise and may be a potential therapeutic agent for treating cognitive disorders, including Alzheimer's disease.
