Cannabinoids as New Drug Candidates for the Treatment of Glaucoma

Erin Jordan et al.

Summary: This article reviews the potential of cannabinoids as new drug candidates for glaucoma and the role of CB1/CB2 receptors in the pathophysiology of glaucoma. The mode of action of cannabinoids as innovative drug candidates and recent formulations for topical delivery are discussed. The potential of cannabinoid receptors associated with TRPV channels as drug targets and the importance of the endocannabinoid system in prostaglandin network and neuroprotection are also evaluated.

Phytocannabinoid Pharmacology: Medicinal Properties of Cannabis sativa Constituents Aside from the Big Two

Peter B. Sampson

Summary: Plant-based therapies, particularly cannabis, have a long history of medicinal use and are now gaining renewed interest due to the discovery of the endocannabinoid system in the early 1990s. This has led to increased research and exploration of the therapeutic potential of cannabis, particularly focusing on the major constituents like Delta(9)-THC and CBD, as well as the numerous minor cannabinoids that could modulate the ECS and show therapeutic benefits individually or in combination with other phytochemicals.

Synthesis of Cannabinoids: In Water and On Water Approaches: Influence of SDS Micelles

Jose F. Quilez del Moral et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that water can be used as a solvent for the biomimetic-like synthesis of cannabinoids, with analysis of additives and reaction modes providing theoretical support. Similar reactions conducted in organic media using catalysts revealed a unique reaction process. Computational studies provided insights into the mechanism and energetics of the process.

Cannabichromene Racemization and Absolute Stereochemistry Based on a Cannabicyclol Analog

Alon R. Agua et al.

Summary: Cannabichromene (CBC) has been described as both a racemic and a scalemic compound from natural Cannabis sources. The absolute stereochemistry of natural CBC has been assigned based on chiroptical data and crystallography analysis. The racemization of CBC is slow in laboratory settings, but handling practices for natural cannabis products may promote this process.
