Tuning the optoelectronic properties of benzodithiophene based donor materials and their photovoltaic applications

Ayesha Naveed et al.

Summary: Four new BDTS-2DPP based donor molecules with different non-fullerene end-capped acceptor units were designed and studied computationally. Results show that these molecules outperformed the reference molecule in terms of various optical and electronic properties, with BDTS3 exhibiting the highest absorption peak and smallest band gap.

Summary: The study investigates the modification of core structure to enhance the utilization of small fullerene free donor materials in photovoltaic technology. The findings show that fluorine-bearing molecules have a red shift in absorption and D3 exhibits the most desirable photovoltaic characteristics. This suggests that replacing core with variable electron-rich components can amend optoelectronic parameters for high-performance organic solar cells.

Designing of small molecule non-fullerene acceptors with cyanobenzene core for photovoltaic application

Rabia Saleem et al.

Summary: A quantum chemical analysis was conducted on four star-shaped anisotropic acceptor molecules for solar cell applications, revealing that substituting different acceptor units on the three sides of the central core can fine-tune the energy levels, absorption properties, and band gap energies of the acceptors. Among them, the A3 acceptor showed high absorption, low band gap, and low reorganization energy, making it promising for organic solar cell applications.

Summary: In this paper, four small molecules based on donor-acceptor-donor-acceptor-donor (D-A-D-A-D) combination were designed by making structural modifications in R. The optoelectronic properties of these molecules were studied using density functional theory (DFT) at CAM-B3LYP, with B2 showing maximum absorption. These newly designed chromophores exhibited better photovoltaic properties compared to the reference R, suggesting their potential for future solar energy driven devices.
