Polymer-coating-induced synthesis of FeNx enriched carbon nanotubes as cathode that exceeds 1.0 W cm-2 peak power in both proton and anion exchange membrane fuel cells

Qian He et al.

Summary: An interface-induced synthesis of FeNx-CNTs with high activity in ORR was achieved by coating PPy thin layers on Fe-ZIF. The polymer/MOF interface constructed suppressed Fe atomic site agglomeration and facilitated CNTs formation with FeNx coordination in the carbon matrix. The produced FeNx-CNTs catalyst exhibited excellent ORR activities with peak power densities of 1.15 and 1.16 W cm(-2) in anion and proton exchange membrane fuel cells.

Anion exchange polyelectrolytes for membranes and ionomers

Nanjun Chen et al.

Summary: Anion exchange membrane fuel cells (AEMFCs) are considered a low-cost alternative to proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) for clean energy conversion, as they utilize non-platinum group metals as electrocatalysts under alkaline conditions. The development of high-performance anion-exchange polyelectrolytes (AEPs) has led to significant progress in power density and durability of AEMFCs, making them comparable to or even better than PEMFCs.
