A full-scale study of nanofiltration: Separation and recovery of NaCl and Na2SO4 from coal chemical industry wastewater

Yuan-Teng Shi et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the importance of controlling residual chlorine content in front-end inlet water to maintain the long-term efficiency of nanofiltration membrane. The use of a pre-treatment unit such as coconut shell activated carbon can effectively remove residual chlorine, ensuring the efficiency and lifespan of the nanofiltration membrane. This work provides valuable insight for the development of nanofiltration membrane for large-scale separation and resource recovery of NaCl and Na2SO4 from coal chemical wastewaters.

A combined interfacial polymerization and in-situ sol-gel strategy to construct composite nanofiltration membrane with improved pore size distribution and anti-protein-fouling property

Yupeng Liu et al.

Summary: The study proposed a novel combined interfacial polymerization (IP) and in-situ sol-gel strategy to fabricate composite nanofiltration membrane with narrow pore size distribution, enhancing membrane perm-selectivity and protein fouling resistance. The addition of TEOS in the interfacially synthesized selective separation layer was effective in tuning the mean pore diameter and narrowing the pore size distribution. Compared to membranes fabricated by only IP technique, the membranes fabricated by the combined IP and sol-gel technique showed higher water permeability and rejection ratio, indicating improved performance.

Integration of membrane technologies to enhance the sustainability in the treatment of metal-containing acidic liquid wastes. An overview

J. Lopez et al.

Summary: Effluents from mining and hydrometallurgical industries are characterized by high acidity and toxic metals, necessitating treatment. Traditional treatment methods are often impractical due to chemical consumption and sludge generation, prompting the promotion of circular economy schemes for recovering valuable elements. Membrane technologies play a crucial role in this process, reducing effluent volume, enabling selective metal ion separation, and metal concentration in acidic streams.
