The Influence of Pop Songs Referencing Anxiety, Depression, and Suicidal Ideation on College Students' Mental Health Empathy, Stigma, and Behavioral Intentions

Summary: The general mental health of U.S. college students is declining, with an increase in references to mental health difficulties in popular music. College students' personal connection and parasocial relationships with songs and artists referencing mental health difficulties are associated with increased mental health empathy. Pop music artists who openly discuss mental health issues may be effective in improving mental health outcomes among college students.

Detecting changes in attitudes toward depression on Chinese social media: A text analysis
