In this study, tellurovanadate-molybdate oxide glasses were prepared and their optical properties were investigated. The bandgap and charge carriers transition were determined using the absorption spectra fitting method. The optimal composition for optical applications was found to be 10 mol% of MoO3.
In this paper, tellurovanadate-molybdate oxide glasses of the form xMoO(3)-(60 - x)V2O5-40TeO(2) with (0 <= x <= 60 mol%) were fabricated using melt-quenching technique. The optical absorption spectra of samples were taken within the wavelength range of 190-1100 nm. Then, derivation of absorption spectrum fitting method (shortened as DASF) was used as more precise and crucial approach to determine the bandgap and also the exact nature of charge carriers transition. Results show that the optical bandgap has a minimum value equal to 2.38 eV for x = 10. Also, some opto-physical quantities such as the width of the band tails (Urbach energy), molar volume, oxygen packing density, metallization criterion (M), molar refraction (R-M), optical basicity and electronic polarizability were obtained for the under studied glasses; results imply on the optimal sample owing x = 10 mol% of MoO3 in optical applications such as optical fibers.
